An Operating Engineer or Heavy Equipment Operator drives and operates heavy equipment used in quarries, construction sites, landfills, refuse and recycling centers, or ports. Heavy Equipment may include, but is not limited to, bulldozers, excavators, paving equipment and pile drivers.

We need skilled, safety-focused Excavator (Trackhoe) Operators for full-time or part-time work on grading, site preparation, and land clearing projects across Middle Tennessee. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Safely operate an excavator (trackhoe) as your primary machine, with secondary work on other grading equipment as assigned (dozers, skid loaders). Perform rough and finish grading on construction sites, ensuring proper grade, slope, and elevation per project specifications. Execute site preparation tasks including clearing, grubbing, excavating, backfilling, and compacting soil and fill materials. Load and move materials around job sites efficiently, coordinating with dump truck drivers and site supervisors. Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and layout instructions to meet project requirements. Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation equipment inspections; check fluid levels, undercarriage, tracks, and attachments — report any issues to the supervisor immediately. Operate equipment safely around other personnel, underground utilities, and structures; maintain awareness of surroundings at all times. Maintain effective communication with the site foreman and crew members to coordinate workflow and material movement. Keep equipment clean and in good working condition; assist with basic maintenance and minor repairs as needed. Follow all site safety rules, traffic control procedures, and company guidelines while on and off the job site.
REQUIREMENTS
Required:
Proven hands-on experience operating one or more of the following: dozer, excavator/trackhoe, or skid loader. Ability to safely operate equipment on active grading and construction sites. Strong awareness of site safety, grade work, and ground conditions. Availability to pass a background check. Willingness to work early morning start times (typical 6:00-6:30 AM). Reliable transportation to job sites across Middle Tennessee. Preferred (not required): 1+ years of heavy equipment operation experience in grading, site work, or land clearing. Experience reading grade stakes and site plans. Familiarity with Middle Tennessee soil conditions, terrain, and job site protocols. Experience on multiple machine types (multi-skilled operators are a plus).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Visual acuity to follow hand signals, read grade stakes, and inspect equipment; regular use of eyes and all mirrors. Active, physical work involving climbing on/off equipment, lifting (50+ lbs), carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, and bending on an occasional basis. Frequently operating equipment and walking job sites for extended periods. Requires focus adjustment, depth perception, and clear close/distant vision. Regular use of hands and feet to operate controls, levers, pedals, and attachments. Must be able to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold temperatures.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Pay:
$20.00 and up per hour, based on experience and equipment operated. Overtime pay at 1.5x for hours over 40/week. Home every night — no extended travel required. Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
