About US Alter Trading Corporation is a 127-year-old industry leader in scrap metal processing, operating over 70 facilities throughout the Midwest and Southern regions. With a strong commitment to customer service and sustainability, we are a trusted source for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Our corporate support center and marketing operations are based in St. Louis, MO, with trading offices in St. Louis and Hong Kong. Position Overview Full-time or part-time hours are available and schedule flexibility! This role is responsible for the inspection and grading of inbound materials, ensuring efficient traffic flow within the yard, and coordinating with crane operators to maintain operational productivity. Assists in the recycling process by operating a variety of equipment including forklift, skid loader, end loader, backhoe and excavator. This role serves as the primary point of contact for incoming drivers and customers and is expected to represent the company with professionalism and a commitment to service excellence. Key Responsibilities Inspect inbound loads for compliance and accurate grading. Deliver courteous and professional experience to all drivers and customers. Collaborate with crane and loader operators to ensure efficient traffic flow. Conduct inspections for non-conforming items (e.g., mercury switches, ballasts). Loads, unloads and sorts of material. Troubleshoot operational issues to minimize downtime. Adhere to all safety protocols and consistently wear required PPE. Assist with additional duties as assigned. Candidate Profile Ideal candidates will demonstrate a proactive approach to work, a strong commitment to safety, and a willingness to learn and grow. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, and prior experience in metals or industrial operations is advantageous. Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude are essential.
