We are seeking a highly experienced heavy equipment operator for a trail and bridge rehabilitation project in West Virginia. This is not an entry-level operator position. We are looking for someone with substantial experience performing precision grading, drainage, culvert installation, ditch work, and finish grading with mini excavators and skid steers. Primary Responsibilities Operate mini excavators and skid steers safely and efficiently Excavate and install drainage culverts Excavate and prepare pipe bedding Place and compact culvert backfill in lifts Clean, reshape, and establish positive drainage in roadside/trail ditches Perform rough and finish grading Grade trail and drainage areas to the elevations and slopes shown on the plans Work from construction drawings, grading plans, stationing, elevations, slopes, contours, and grade stakes Maintain proper drainage elevations between culvert inlets, outlets, and ditches Perform excavation around existing structures and utilities with precision Assist with aggregate placement, subgrade preparation, and related earthwork Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance Work closely with superintendent, grade checker, survey personnel, and labor crews Required Experience Extensive experience operating mini excavators and skid steers Strong finish-grading ability Experience installing culverts and drainage pipe Experience constructing and reshaping drainage ditches Ability to read and understand civil construction and grading plans Ability to understand elevations, stationing, slopes, percentages, contours, cut/fill, and drainage direction Ability to work from grade stakes and established elevations Must be capable of completing grading work accurately without constant supervision Experience working around tight access areas is strongly preferred Highway, civil, sitework, utility, or heavy construction experience preferred Preferred Qualifications Significant experience with mini excavators and skid steers Previous federal, highway, civil, drainage, or utility construction experience Experience working in steep or restricted-access terrain Familiarity with laser levels and other grading equipment We are specifically looking for an operator who understands grading and drainage, not simply someone who has operated equipment. Project location is Oak Hill, West Virginia. This is a prevailing-wage federal construction project.

Pay:

$44.00 - $62.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
