Who is MLC? We create immersive experiences. For over 40 years, MLC Theming, Inc. has served as one of Central Florida's premier general contractors within the theming industry. We are experts in commercial and specialty construction, with our projects spanning new builds as well as the rehabilitation and repurposing of existing structures and attractions. Examples of our work include kitchens, restrooms, kiosks, gift shops, walkways, back-of-house support buildings and offices, facades, faux rock and stone, faux wood, architectural details, murals, high performance paint, specialty molds, speaker boxes, zoological exhibits, and more. We are growing and seeking highly skilled Scenic Painters that have experience with large-scale faux finishes as well as murals. Ideal candidates must be able to safely meet the fast-paced, demands of our clients and be comfortable working across other construction trades as needed during different phases of our projects (i.e.; work will vary from fine art to labor-intensive activities).
Primary Responsibilities:
Prepare surfaces or workspaces for coverage or paint application Execute high-quality scenic painting including faux finishes, aging / distressing, woodgraining, color matching, texturing, and large-format painting Repair, mold, shape, and sculpt objects using materials such as epoxy / Polygem, Bondo, and fiberglass (FRP) Journey to
Scenic Lead or Foreman:
Because our team culture and client experience are important to our future, we require an evaluation period before any field team members can be considered for leadership-based positions. All selected candidates will be initially hired as Scenic Painters. Your skills will be observed, and you will have the chance to learn from some of the most experienced talent in the industry. You can expect, depending upon your prior work history and availability of assigned projects to showcase your skills, that it will take at least 1-3 years to advance from Scenic Painter to a Lead or Foreman.
Qualifications:
Schedules are driven by project contracts, primarily working nights from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM Portfolio demonstrating: 5+ years of scenic painting experience within themed environments, with 2+ years commercial (base) painting experience and 1+ years working within construction environments Prior experience mixing and applying high performance paints (must pass a respirator fit test) Prior experience operating and troubleshooting HVLP paint sprayers, air guns, pressure washers, and other powered tools Comfort working from heights using ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts (must have prior experience operating aerial lift, up to 120 ft preferred) 3-year safe driving record as evidenced through motor vehicle history records (must have valid Driver's License with 3+ years of available history in the United States) Track record of positive customer interactions Track record of cross-trade teamwork Ability to read and interpret design references, paint specifications, and other construction documentation Ability to lift 60 lbs independently
Preferred:
Prior experience with drywall finishing (levels 3, 4, or 5) Prior experience supervising a crew of scenic painters
