Strategically located in the heart of the western United States, St. George Steel is positioned to fabricate and deliver quality steel products for any project, wherever it takes us. Position Summary The Painter Assistant supports the night-shift coatings crew in preparing, priming, and painting fabricated steel components to specification. This role helps keep finished parts moving on schedule by assisting with surface preparation, masking, spraying, and cleanup. We will train the right person — dependability, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn matter most. Responsibilities Prepare steel surfaces for coating through grinding, sanding, blasting, or wiping down parts as directed Mask and cover areas that should not be painted or coated Assist with mixing paints and coatings to specification Assist the paint crew with spray application of primers, paints, and industrial coatings Hang, stage, and move parts before and after coating Clean and maintain spray equipment, guns, and the paint booth at the end of each shift Inspect finished parts for coverage, drips, and quality issues, and flag items needing rework Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of respirators and PPE in the paint booth Keep the paint area organized, restocked, and in compliance with safety and environmental standards Support other night-shift shop tasks as needed Qualifications Prior painting and coating experience preferred Experience with industrial painting, coatings, or spray equipment is a plus Willingness to work a full night-shift schedule Comfortable wearing required PPE, including respirators, for extended periods Attention to detail and pride in finish quality Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand, bend, and reach for extended periods Good teamwork and communication skills High school diploma or equivalent preferred What We Offer On-the-job training in industrial coatings and spray application Competitive pay based on experience, with night-shift differential Stable, full-time schedule A team-oriented shop environment with over 50 years of fabrication experience Opportunities for growth within the coatings department
Pay:
$18.00 - $25.00 per hour
