Position Summary The HDPE Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, fabrication, assembly, testing, and maintenance of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) piping systems on industrial construction projects. The HDPE Pipefitter must be able to read drawings and specifications, safely operate HDPE fusion equipment, perform pipe layout and fit-up, and install piping systems in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and company safety and quality standards. The position may work on industrial plants, manufacturing facilities, water and wastewater systems, utility systems, process piping systems, and other heavy industrial construction projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install HDPE pipe, fittings, valves, flanges, and associated components. Read and interpret construction drawings, isometric drawings, specifications, and piping layouts. Measure, mark, cut, bevel, prepare, and assemble HDPE pipe and fittings. Perform HDPE butt fusion, socket fusion, and electrofusion as qualified and required by the project. Set up, operate, inspect, and maintain HDPE fusion machines and related equipment. Verify pipe size, wall thickness, material designation, and fitting configuration before installation. Perform proper pipe alignment, leveling, positioning, and support. Install mechanical joints, flange connections, valves, restraints, and transition fittings. Prepare pipe ends and fusion surfaces in accordance with applicable procedures. Monitor fusion temperatures, heating times, pressure, cooling times, and other required parameters. Visually inspect completed fusion joints for proper bead formation and workmanship. Identify defective or improperly fused joints and notify supervision or Quality Control. Follow all applicable OSHA requirements and company safety policies. Inspect tools and equipment before use and report damaged or defective equipment. Maintain accurate records of fusion joints and other required quality documentation. Work closely with pipefitters, welders, laborers, operators, QC personnel, and supervision. The HDPE Pipefitter should be capable of performing or assisting with: Butt fusion. Socket fusion. Electrofusion. Sidewall fusion where applicable. Fusion machine setup and alignment. Pipe scraping and surface preparation. Heating and fusion-cycle control. Bead inspection and joint identification. Fusion-joint documentation. Proper pipe handling and storage. Fusion equipment cleaning and maintenance. Qualifications Required Previous experience installing HDPE piping in commercial, industrial, utility, water/wastewater, or civil construction. HDPE butt-fusion experience. Electrofusion experience. Experience with industrial process piping. Experience with HDPE water, chemical, utility, or process piping systems. Ability to read and interpret piping drawings and specifications. Ability to use tape measures, levels, squares, and other layout tools. Ability to safely use hand and power tools. Ability to work safely around heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts, and other construction operations. Ability to work outdoors and in industrial construction environments.
