- Job Title: Pipefitter
- Job Description
- As a Pipefitter, you will play a critical role in installing and maintaining ship piping systems.
These systems may include steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil. Your work will involve planning the layout of pipe sections, cutting and boring holes in bulkheads and decks, and cutting and threading pipes and fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats. Additionally, you will bend pipes to specified shapes, bolt on pipe-bending fixtures, and bolt or weld brackets to support pipe systems. You will connect pipes to fixtures such as heat exchangers, pumps, tanks, and other ship equipment, and ensure systems are tested for leaks and meet specifications.
- Responsibilities
- + Install and maintain ships' piping systems, including steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil.
+ Plan layout of pipe sections and cut and bore holes for installation.
+ Cut and thread pipe and pipe fittings, including valves, traps, and thermostats.
+ Bend pipe to specified shape using pipe-bending fixtures.
+ Bolt or weld brackets to support pipe systems.
+ Connect pipes to ship fixtures such as heat exchangers, laundry, and galley equipment.
+ Repair, pack, and adjust valves.
+ Test installed systems for leaks and compliance with specifications.
+ Ensure completion of Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) before starting tasks.
+ Follow safety standards and hot work protocols.
- Essential Skills
- + Pipefitting experience, particularly with piping systems on vessels or ships. + Ability to read and interpret blueprints. + Experience with brazing and installation. + Proficiency in butt welding, installing pipe hangers, fitting flanged joints, threading pipes. + Adherence to tag-out procedures and WAF requirements.
- Additional Skills & Qualifications
- + High School Diploma or GED. + 1st Class requires 5+ years of recent experience. + 2nd Class requires 3+ years of recent experience. + Rapid Gate preferred for local candidates and necessary for Per Diem candidates.

- Work Environment
- You will be working in a shipyard/outdoor environment, supporting work at various locations. The shift is primarily 1st (7-3:30) and occasionally 2nd (3-11), with weekend work typically on Saturdays. Expect to work 40-55 hours per week, depending on workload. There is no specific shift attire.

- This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA.
- Pay and Benefits
- The pay range for this position is $25.
00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
