Field Gauger Kern Energy - 1.0 Bakersfield, CA Job Details Full-time $46.84 an hour 13 hours ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Driver's License Full Job Description Kern Energy is seeking a Field Gauger who will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation, inspection, gauging, and maintenance of crude oil pipeline facilities and associated equipment. This position performs field activities related to pipeline operations, crude oil measurement, tank gauging, valve operations, pipeline surveillance, maintenance, and operational support. The position requires a strong commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, accurate measurement, and reliable pipeline operations. The Field Gauger will work independently and as part of a team while responding to operational needs, maintenance activities, and emergency situations. Job Function Coordinate the receipt and movement of crude oil from local lease locations, pipelines, and third-party carriers. Travel to lease locations in a Company-provided vehicle and communicate with producers by phone and in person. Operate and monitor crude oil pipelines, valves, pumps, meters, tanks, LACT units, and related facilities in accordance with established procedures. Start and stop pipeline flows where automatic custody-transfer meters are not available, using tank gauge differences to calculate the volume received. Gauge lease storage tanks "on" (high gauge) and "off" (low gauge), collect representative crude oil samples, and approve eligible tanks for release and transportation to Kern Energy. Perform laboratory testing and analysis of crude oil samples collected from lease tanks and incoming trucks, including determining gravity and basic sediment and water (BS&W). Accurately record gauge readings, sample results, volumes, and other required information on Kern Crude Oil Run Tickets and submit completed tickets to the Accounting Department. Maintain the Gauger Logbook and accurate records of tank inventories, pipeline movements, shipments, receipts, meter readings, and measurement activities. Complete the daily Anticipated Oil Receipts Summary using information provided by Planning and supplemental details regarding local lease receipts. Complete month-end inventory reconciliation activities, including necessary adjustments to custody-transfer meter tickets. Monitor pipeline pressures, flow rates, temperatures, tank levels, and other operating conditions; compare field measurements with SCADA and other measurement systems and investigate discrepancies. Perform routine meter inspections and assist with meter proving and calibration activities. Conduct pipeline patrols and facility inspections to identify leaks, corrosion, damage, encroachments, exposed pipe, erosion, equipment deficiencies, and other conditions that may affect pipeline integrity. Respond promptly to suspected leaks, spills, alarms, equipment failures, and other abnormal or emergency conditions. Assist with pipeline start-ups, shutdowns, line transfers, isolations, emergency shutdowns, spill containment, and other operational changes. Perform routine pipeline and facility maintenance, including valve maintenance, lubrication, minor repairs, and equipment inspections. Support pipeline integrity activities, including excavations, coating inspections, repairs, hydrotesting, cathodic protection inspections, corrosion monitoring, and pipeline inspections. Identify and mark Kern Energy pipelines in response to Underground Service Alert requests and Dig Alerts coordinated through the Commercial Department. Assist contractors, inspection vendors, emergency-response contractors, and regulatory agencies performing work at Kern Energy facilities, as directed. Identify maintenance needs and promptly communicate deficiencies or abnormal operating conditions to supervision and other appropriate departments. Complete daily operating reports, inspection records, maintenance documentation, measurement records, photographs, and written field reports accurately and timely. Maintain records necessary to support regulatory inspections and audits. Follow all Kern Energy safety policies, environmental requirements, operating procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements, including DOT pipeline regulations and Cal/OSHA standards. Participate in Job Safety Analyses, tailgate meetings, safety meetings, training, and emergency-response activities. Maintain required Operator Qualification certifications and complete all assigned training. Immediately report leaks, spills, unsafe conditions, equipment failures, and abnormal operating conditions. Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified and actively support a strong safety culture. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
