Position Title Physical Plant - Plumber Classification Title Hourly Full Time (0.75-1.0 FTE) Benefits Eligibility Benefits Eligibility Department Physical Plant Job Description Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Ability to evaluate and critique plumbing design documents for new and existing buildings and systems. Ability to oversee and manage other college technicians and outside contractors on projects. Mechanical aptitude, knowledge of working with hand and power tools. Perform maintenance service, repair, troubleshooting, alterations and other associated work on multiple types of fixtures and systems. Ability to determine and implement necessary preventative maintenance. Estimate material requirements and pricing to accomplish the above duties as well as submit recommendations to supervisor concerning maintenance and replacement of equipment. Conduct all work in accordance with current building codes and safety procedures. Ability to read and interpret construction drawing specifications and operating instructions. Ability to work with others and carry out tasks without direct supervision. Ability to adjust to changes in assigned tasks. Willingness to respond to emergency after-hours needs. Keep Journeyman or Master plumbing license current including attending required training in areas of responsibility. Qualifications Must hold a current Michigan Journeyman or Master Plumber License. High school graduate with at least 3-5 years of experience in the trade preferably in a maintenance environment. Ideal candidate will have a plumbing backflow prevention testing certificate or be willing to obtain certification. Must have a valid Michigan driver's license. Must pass a physical examination and possess no physical limitations which would inhibit work performance. Computer skills adequate to respond to work orders, work with suppliers and communicate with others on campus. Ability to plan and organize work based on work orders and preventative maintenance requirements. Must have a personality capable of handling stressful deadline situations and dealing diplomatically with people. Physical Demands This position requires remaining in a sitting or position for frequent periods of time; sometimes includes crouching, bending, and having to work in confined spaces or on ladders. This position often works in non-climate controlled spaces. Occasionally involves moving and lifting items over 25 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities.
