August Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Lead to oversee mechanical system readiness, equipment startup, functional testing, and issue resolution on a large-scale mission-critical construction project. This person will serve as the mechanical systems subject matter expert for chilled water, HVAC, and central plant equipment. The role will coordinate closely with quality, construction, equipment vendors, trade partners, and commissioning personnel throughout installation verification, startup, testing, and turnover. Key Responsibilities Lead commissioning activities for chilled water, HVAC, and central plant systems. Review mechanical installation and pre-functional readiness with quality and construction teams. Confirm equipment installation matches approved drawings and submittals. Verify completion of pressure testing, flushing, chemical treatment, air balancing, and other readiness activities. Review system fill and flush procedures and confirm field implementation. Verify readiness of chillers, pumps, cooling towers, critical cooling units, air-handling equipment, exhaust systems, and heat exchangers. Confirm valve alignment, flow direction, sensor placement, and overall system completeness. Oversee equipment vendor startup and completion of startup documentation. Verify flow rates, temperature performance, vibration results, TAB settings, and stable system operation. Support functional testing, issue resolution, and integrated testing activities. Coordinate vendor and subcontractor support during testing. Track commissioning deficiencies and communicates schedule or readiness concerns to project leadership. Required Experience Mechanical commissioning experience on mission-critical, industrial, manufacturing, or similarly complex facilities. Strong knowledge of chilled water, HVAC, and central plant systems. Experience with equipment startup, pre-functional checks, functional testing, and troubleshooting. Experience with chillers, pumps, cooling towers, critical cooling equipment, air-handling systems, and related mechanical equipment. Understanding of pressure testing, flushing, chemical treatment, TAB, flow verification, and system performance testing. Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment submittals, sequences of operation, and commissioning procedures. Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, quality personnel, and commissioning teams. Strong field communication, documentation, and issue-resolution skills. Preferred Experience Prior data center or mission-critical commissioning experience. Experience supporting multiple levels of commissioning through integrated testing. Familiarity with commissioning management software. Experience working with third-party commissioning providers. Familiarity with mechanical controls, BMS integration, alarms, and system trending.
