Job Overview Work is located in Newport News Vrginia We're looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you'll fabricate, assemble, and maintain sheet metal components used in various industries. Responsibilities Operate and set up various sheet metal fabrication machines like press brakes, CNC laser cutters, and plasma cutters to produce precise components. Interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly. Use measurement instruments like calipers and micrometers for quality control and measurement verification. Perform CNC programming tasks to optimize machine operation and meet design specifications. Weld, form, and assemble sheet metal parts while following safety standards and quality protocols. Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety standards, including proper tool handling. Inspect finished products for quality assurance; identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions. Set up machining tools accurately for processes like CNC milling and stamping operations. Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot machine issues and improve fabrication processes. Experience 3+ years as a first-class Sheet Metal Worker, preferably with marine experience. Aircraft/Industrial/Commercial sheet metal experience is also acceptable. Extensive knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes like plasma cutting and welding. Proficiency in operating CNC machinery such as laser cutters and mills. Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) for precise measurement. Skilled in interpreting mechanical blueprints and technical drawings. Familiarity with shop math and basic math skills for measurements and calculations. Experience with safety standards in production environments. Ability to perform machine setup tasks efficiently while maintaining safety and quality. Knowledge of tooling selection and maintenance for sheet metal fabrication equipment. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team while following strict safety protocols. Required Skills Ability to understand complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches. Ability to comprehend fractional and decimal dimensions using a ruler. Ability to layoff piece parts for fabrication and assembly. Ability to assemble piece parts according to specifications in a quality manner. Experience working in a physically demanding environment. Familiarity with OSHA regulations in the shipbuilding industry. Experience using small hand tools and shop equipment.
