Field Services - Utility-Scale Solar Position Overview Somos Energy Solutions is seeking an experienced Traveling Solar Technician to support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of utility-scale solar facilities throughout the United States. This position will focus primarily on central inverter systems and associated medium- and low-voltage electrical equipment , supporting both scheduled maintenance and emergent outage response. The ideal candidate is a technically capable, safety-focused field professional who is comfortable troubleshooting complex electrical systems, working independently in remote environments, and traveling extensively. The technician will work directly with project owners, EPC contractors, equipment manufacturers, and the Somos Energy Solutions field and engineering teams to maintain system reliability, minimize downtime, and ensure high-quality field execution. Key Responsibilities Perform advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting on utility-scale central inverter systems Diagnose and resolve AC and DC electrical faults, communications failures, control-system issues, and inverter alarms Remove, repair, and replace inverter components, including: Power modules IGBTs Contactors Breakers and disconnects Cooling fans Filters Control boards Communication components Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on central inverter equipment Conduct torque inspections, electrical testing, thermal scans, visual inspections, and equipment condition assessments Support firmware, software, and control-system updates in coordination with OEM technical teams Troubleshoot systems operating from 480V through medium-voltage collection systems up to 34.5kV Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and single-line drawings Document inspections, troubleshooting activities, corrective actions, and completed work through Fieldwire, CMMS platforms, and other digital reporting systems Coordinate directly with site owners, asset managers, EPC contractors, subcontractors, and OEM technical support personnel Respond to emergent equipment outages and system-performance issues Maintain organized records of field activities, parts usage, equipment conditions, and recommended corrective actions Maintain company tools, vehicles, test equipment, and PPE in accordance with Somos Energy Solutions standards Travel throughout the United States to support both planned maintenance activities and urgent field-service needs Safety Responsibilities Safety is a core responsibility of every Somos Energy Solutions employee. The Traveling Solar Technician is expected to maintain strict compliance with company, client, and site-specific safety requirements, including: Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)NFPA 70E
electrical safety practices Arc-flash protection requirements Electrical safe-work procedures OSHA requirements Site-specific Job Hazard Analyses and safety plans Proper use, inspection, and maintenance of PPE Technicians must be comfortable identifying unsafe conditions and exercising stop-work authority when necessary. QualificationsRequired 2-5 years of experience in utility-scale solar, renewable energy, industrial electrical systems, power generation, or a related field Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills Working knowledge of 480V electrical systems and medium-voltage systems up to 34.5kV Ability to safely use electrical diagnostic and testing equipment Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line drawings Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform component-level equipment repairs Ability to work independently with limited field supervision Strong communication and documentation skills Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Ability to travel approximately 75-90% of the time Ability to work outdoors and in remote environments under varying weather conditions Preferred Experience servicing central inverter platforms manufactured by TMEIC, SMA, Power Electronics, GE, or comparable OEMs Utility-scale solar operations and maintenance experience OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certificationNFPA 70E
