The Assistant Athletic Director will provide support for overall leadership, strategic direction, and logistical operations for VMS athletics. This role will also be teaching in the physical education department and health and wellness courses along with coaching sports. They are committed to pursuing professional development and are life-long learners.What You Will Do:
Provide an instructional program for fifth through eighth grade PE that is relevant, challenging, and appropriate for the needs and abilities of Vail Mountain School students. You will also evaluate student progress in accordance with our assessment policies Develop/update target curriculum for a health seminar course for Middle and Upper School. This course will run for 3 of 4 quarters in Middle School and 4 of 4 quarters in Upper School.. Provide safety instruction to students and establish standards of student behavior and academics to ensure a productive environment for physical education/athletics and to ensure the optimal condition and safety of all athletic equipment, facilities, fields, and courts Provide general supervision of students at all times in the building (including lunch and recess) Assist in the scheduling of Middle School and Upper School Athletics, hiring, coach management, and budgeting with assistance from the Athletics Director and Division Directors. Regularly attend athletic events that fall outside the school day Work directly with the Athletic Director to determine weekly priorities and engage in on-going communication to ensure support to all athletic events Coordinate with the Athletic Director and all three Division Directors to ensure appropriate integration, scope, sequence, and articulation of physical education and health curriculum. Become a proficient user of the our existing technology systems to be effective in your athletic's management Collaborate with all colleagues to provide the best possible experience for our students and community members Participate in orientation, field trips, hut trips, student activities, and Ski Days Communicate with parents, athletes, and employees with a collaborative attitude to ensure all needs are met Support the school's commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging, and actively promote the school's goals and culture in this regard. Exhibit flexibility to determine your priorities on the fly. For example, you may determine that you should miss certain away games or practices to cover a different event that is understaffed. Plan and organize athletic assemblies, pep rallies, and awards programs. Jump in to help when your team is in need. This might include covering classes, skiing or snowshoeing with students, hopping onto a field trip that needs to be coveredWho You Are:

You're interested in participating in school events like after school academy, field trips, sitting at lunch tables, assisting with carpool, hut trips, and Ski Fridays (or alternative winter outdoor activities). Comfortable leading a class of students outside of a traditional classroom setting including a gymnasium, athletic field, and outdoor winter environments Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university While you are unable to be a Varsity head coach, assistant coaching is available upon the approval and at the discretion of the Athletic Director. Experienced in Middle and Upper School athletics through teaching and/or coaching Preference for experience with athletic scheduling and logistical planning You are passionate about fostering and furthering a culture of belonging and inclusion in our school.Who We Are:
