Job Description

Assistant Athletic Trainer FLSA Classification Full-time Exempt Reports to Head Athletic Trainer Date March 2024 Job Description Summary/objective Serve as assistant athletic trainer and assist in managing the administration of all operations and staff of the medical care services to Randolph College student-athletes. Essential functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Assist the head athletic trainer in directing all aspects of athletic training services to all intercollegiate athletic teams including practice and game coverage, injury recognition, treatment, rehabilitation and referrals.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate medical documentation.
  • Monitor and administer secondary insurance procedures and documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining proper athletic training inventory and budget of supplies.
  • Work closely with the orthopedic physicians in developing well-rounded high quality treatment plans for student-athletes.
  • Schedule recommended orthopedics appointments for student-athletes.
  • Assist in the supervision and education of student employees.
  • Abide by the NATA Professional Code of Ethics and ODAC Athletic Training Manual Additional Duties
  • Provide general counsel, guidance, and inspiration to students regarding their overall success, particularly including utilizing new student orientation activities, career services, academic success programs, living successfully in residence halls and behaving with the College's conduct expectations. Promote good sportsmanship.
  • Provide leadership and instruction by teaching no more than (1) 4 credit, academic class related to athletic training.
  • Perform additional department administrative duties as needed.
  • Preceptor for Athletic Training Students from University of Lynchburg and Liberty University. Competencies
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and conference athletic training policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills including effective verbal and written abilities.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population (students, staff, faculty, and coaches).
  • Ability to positively influence public relations between the athletic department, the campus, and the community.
  • Computer and database skills required.
Supervisory responsibilities Directly supervise student assistants and interns, if applicable. Work environment Serves as a member of the Department of Athletics. Reports to the head athletic trainer. Must work effectively on a regular basis with members of the faculty and staff members in Athletics, Admission, Student Affairs, Alumnae/Alumni Relations, Institutional Advancement, and other College offices. Physical demands Working environment includes both indoors and outdoors, exposure to various weather conditions, including temperature extremes. Indoor work environment may not be air conditioned during hot weather. Must have the physical ability to walk, lift up to 50 pounds, run, bend, twist, climb, see, hear, and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Travel required Travel to/from athletics events, NCAA and/or ODAC meetings, and/or professional development workshops required. Required education and experience Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in athletic training or sport related field.
NATA BOC
certification, Virginia state licensure, Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR or American Heart Health Care Professional CPR.
