Job Title:
Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach / Junior Varsity (JV)
Head Coach Reports To:
Head Varsity Volleyball Coach & Athletic Director Position Summary:
The Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach / JV Head Coach is responsible for supporting the varsity volleyball program while leading and managing the junior varsity team. This position focuses on developing student-athletes' skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and understanding of the game while aligning with the overall philosophy of Piedmont's athletic program.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Support (Varsity Level): Assist the Head Varsity Coach with planning and conducting practices Help develop game strategies, scouting reports, and skill development plans Provide instruction in fundamental volleyball skills and advanced techniques Support supervision of athletes during practices, games, and team events Willing to learn new ideas in volleyball and implement them
JV Head Coaching Duties:
Plan, organize, and lead all JV team practices and competitions Develop player skills, conditioning programs, and game knowledge Create lineups and manage in-game decisions for JV contests Foster a positive, inclusive, and development-focused team culture
Student-Athlete Development:
Promote academic success, discipline, and personal responsibility Model and enforce good sportsmanship and ethical behavior Build relationships that encourage growth, confidence, and teamwork
Program Coordination:
Ensure alignment between JV and varsity systems, terminology, and expectations Assist with program-wide communication and scheduling Help organize tryouts, camps, and offseason development opportunities
Administrative Duties:
Maintain equipment inventory and practice facilities Communicate effectively with players, parents, school staff, and administration Follow all school, district, and state athletic association policies Assist with transportation coordination and supervision during travel
Qualifications:
Previous coaching or competitive volleyball experience preferred Strong knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, rules, and strategies Ability to teach and motivate high school student-athletes Effective communication and organizational skills Commitment to student-athlete safety and well-being CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Must meet all district and state coaching requirements
Work Schedule:
Seasonal position (fall sport; offseason duties may be expected) Practices and games held after school, evenings, and occasional weekends

Strong leadership and mentorship abilities Positive attitude and team-first mindset Ability to collaborate with coaching staff and school personnel Commitment to building a competitive and character-driven program
