May assume leadership, authority, responsibility, and accountability in the absence of the Director of Nursing. 2. Assist in maintaining the standards of nursing practices, assist in developing and updating policies and procedures for nursing personnel. 3. Supervises and reviews resident care and resident care policies. 4. Perform duties of staff nurse when required. 5. Assist in identifying and solving departmental and personnel problems. 6. Assist in proper handling of emergency care for residents, personnel and visitors involved in accidents while on the job or in the building. 7. Promote public relations and be a liaison between Director of Nursing and other departments. 8. Maintain Federal and State regulations as related to nursing and be knowledgeable of State requirements for other services and departments in the facility. 9. Keep current in the field of Nursing through reading current literature, workshops, and conferences. 10. Participates with the Resident Admissions Coordinator in the evaluation of residents for admissions and with the Social Workers relative to discharge, as needed. 11. Participates and/or follows procedures of the Quality Assurance Committee, Behavior Monitoring Committee, Clinical meetings, Infection Control meetings, Personnel Policy meetings, Fire and Safety meetings, Resident Care Plan meetings, Family Counsel meetings, etc. 12. Assists in coordinating nursing inservices with all other departments, such as Physical Therapy, Diversional Therapy and others. 13. Make rounds of all nursing units and monitor resident care for compliance with federal, state and local standards and regulations. 14. Assist in establishing the administration procedure and control of medication under the direction of the Pharmacists and participates in policy change with the Pharmacists and pharmacy committee. 15. Assists as needed in the development of individual resident care plans and charting that is in compliance with federal, state and local standards and regulations. 16. Responsible for seeing that resident care plans are initiated and followed through. 17. Works closely with MDS Coordinator. 18. Does site visits prior to admission when required. 19. Carries on continuous evaluation of needs and services as it concerns nursing care. 20. Work with staff to continually upgrade and improve nursing care of the residents. 21. Assist in providing for the spiritual, psychological and social needs of residents. 22. Assist in interpreting the goals and objectives of the facility to nursing service personnel. 23. Cooperate with administration and other departments in maintaining a safe and sanitary environment. 24. Maintain and foster cordial relationships with residents, their families and friends and interested persons and/or groups in the community. 25. Represent the facility and nursing service in professional and community activities. 26. Promote effective working relationships with administration, medical staff, other departments, volunteers and agencies affiliated with the facility. 27. Able and willing to attend local, State and regional meetings as required and approved by the Administrator. 28. Participate in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies. 29. Will be responsible for doing evaluations of professional and non-professional staff. 30. Will assist with monitoring and approving staff timecards. 31. Will investigate falls, injuries of unknown origin and complete appropriate documentation as required by State guidelines. 32. Assist complaint officer with investigations. 33.
