Memorial Day - Labor Day About The Owenego The Owenego, affectionately known as "The O," is a historic, family-oriented beach and tennis club on the shores of Long Island Sound in Branford, Connecticut. From casual evenings on the beachside patio to elegant waterfront weddings and lively member events, The O is a place where great drinks, beautiful views, and warm hospitality come together. We are looking for experienced, TIPS-certified bartenders who can deliver outstanding service in a high-volume setting while keeping the relaxed, welcoming energy that makes this place special. Position Summary The Bartender will prepare and serve beverages for club members, inn guests, and event attendees across a variety of settings—from our seaside deck and beachside patio to private weddings and special events inside our historic inn. This is a fast-paced, guest-facing role that requires polished bartending skills, the ability to thrive during high-volume service, and a genuine knack for making people feel at home. Key Responsibilities Prepare and serve a wide range of cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages with speed, accuracy, and consistency. Provide attentive, friendly bar service during weddings, private events, dinner dances, cookouts, and other club functions. Manage high-volume bar service with composure, maintaining quality and hospitality even during peak demand. Set up and break down portable and fixed bar stations for events, including stocking, ice, glassware, garnishes, and supplies. Monitor alcohol consumption responsibly and adhere to all TIPS guidelines, Connecticut liquor laws, and club policies regarding the service of alcohol. Ensure all guests are of legal drinking age through proper ID verification. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary bar area at all times, including proper storage, waste disposal, and compliance with health and safety standards. Assist with inventory tracking, restocking, and communicating to management. Collaborate with catering staff, event coordinators, and fellow bartenders to deliver seamless service across simultaneous events. Represent The Owenego's welcoming, laid-back spirit in every guest interaction. Qualifications TIPS certification is required. Minimum of 2 years of bartending experience, preferably in a high-volume bar, event, or hospitality environment. Proven ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining a positive demeanor. Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, wine, and beer. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills—you genuinely enjoy engaging with guests and creating a great experience. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the event calendar. Comfortable working outdoors in a waterfront environment in varying weather conditions. Dependable, self-motivated, and professional in appearance and conduct. Compensation & Details Gratuities may apply depending on event type and structure. Seasonal position aligned with the club's summer operating season, with potential to extend for fall events depending on demand.
