Location:
Cambridge, MA (at MIT Department of Chemistry)
Schedule:
20 to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, all or mostly in person at MIT office, with flexibility in days and hours
Compensation:

For over a century, Organic Syntheses has provided the scientific community with carefully reviewed and experimentally verified synthetic procedures that advance chemical research and education worldwide. We are seeking a detail-oriented Administrative Coordinator to support the journal's editorial and operational activities. This position works closely with the Editor in Chief, Associate Editor, Treasurer, and members of the Editorial Board, helping ensure the continued success of a highly regarded scientific publication. The Administrative Coordinator will not be an employee of MIT but will have an office within the MIT Department of Chemistry in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The position is not benefits eligible. Our collaborative network of editors, authors, and scientists contributes to a publication trusted by researchers and students around the world. As part of our small and highly engaged team, you will have the opportunity to work directly with distinguished faculty and researchers while supporting a publication that plays an important role in the scientific community. Job Summary The Administrative Coordinator supports the daily operations of Organic Syntheses and serves as a key administrative resource for the journal's editorial leadership.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinating the receipt, tracking, and processing of journal manuscripts. Communicating with authors, editorial board members, and other stakeholders. Maintaining organizational records, correspondence, and file-sharing systems. Supporting website updates and social media activities. Assisting with shipping, recordkeeping, and general administrative functions. Providing operational support for special projects and other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Three to five years of administrative, operational, financial, or project coordination experience, preferably in a scientific, research, academic, or publishing environment. Expertise with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, is required. Key Success Factors Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism. Dependability and a commitment to accuracy.
