Job Description

DeKalb County's Public Defender is searching to fill a full-time Administrative Assistant position who, under the direction of the Chief Public Defender, will be responsible for coordinating community services for clients, assisting with case investigations, assisting Paralegals, maintaining files and assisting the public. You must possess at least a High school diploma or GED; have knowledge of legal terminology and standard legal procedures; be able to create and maintain department records/files; have a working knowledge of standard office procedures and software applications; be proficient in standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and ability to prepare correspondence; have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, attorneys, Court personnel and the public; maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements; ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile individual; possess a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record. Work is performed in a standard office environment and at the public counter; subject to sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds.
BENEFIT PACKAGE
