Primary Purpose:
Provide classroom support to staff and students and clerical support to administrative staff in meeting the diverse needs of special education students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or
GED Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with children with disabilities Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Computer skills including keyboarding and use of computer software applications Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Familiarity with special education services Bilingual preferred
Experience:
Two to three years of experience in the educational domain
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Office Assistance:
1. Maintain the safety and security of the campus by screening and documenting visitors and maintaining records relating to people who enter the building in accordance with Yoakum ISD policy and DLSEC guidelines. 2. Compile attendance records (e. g., daily attendance and absence documentation) on multi-district students and send to the students home campus in accordance with required timelines. 3. Implement measures to ensure confidential items are marked and handled as such. 4. Compile pertinent data as needed when preparing various state and local reports, including but not limited to monthly meal report to the food services director. 5. Prepare accurate and professional correspondence, forms, reports, etc., including sending Multidistrict report cards to parents and home campuses, and preparing/sending any other correspondence as deemed necessary by the supervisor. 6. Assist in ordering and maintaining supplies needed for the multi-district programs in accordance with DLSEC budget procedures.
Multi-District Program Support:
1. Serve as a liaison between paraprofessional classroom staff and professional staff including teachers and administrators and communicate staff-related concerns to administrator. 2. Help meet the individual needs of students, including but not limited to transferring them to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning them, and signing or interpreting instructions for them. 3. Help students take care of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene. 4. Assist students throughout the school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty while on campus and in other locations, such as field trips, special events, community-based instruction trips, and vocational experiences. 5. Keep timely, accurate records and data regarding students educational program, medical concerns, physical or emotional incidents as directed by professional staff. All written records should reflect appropriate and professional language and maintain confidentiality as required by law. 6. Support and participate in the planning, execution, and completion of DLSEC events for students and staff. 7. Keep supervisor apprised of concerns relating to multi-district students and staff.
Administration:
1. Accurately compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documentation within established timelines and utilizing required resources such as electronic student data management system, online calendar and email, site sign-in sheets, and other systems for reporting services and progress. 2. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, local board policy, and DLSEC guidelines. 3. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. 4. Effectively communicate with colleagues, supervisors, member-district staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders. 5. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
