Grounds Superintendent Florida State University - 4.3 Tallahassee, FL Job Details Full-time 14 hours ago Qualifications Outdoor work experience Driver's License Full Job Description Department Facilities - Grounds Responsibilities Responsible for managing and overseeing personnel and material resources related to Grounds maintenance, turf management, and weed and ant management in zones 1-4. Supervises, trains, and evaluates work performance of staff assigned to maintain on-campus properties. Directs work of groundskeepers, mowers, spray techs, and other personnel necessary to maintain the grounds on the main campus. Assists with the recruitment and employment separation processes, communicates with appropriate supervisory personnel and HR regarding disciplinary investigations, and makes commendations for all assigned personnel. Prepares employee performance evaluations. Reviews and approves requests for leave and reviews time and leave records for accuracy. Tours the main campus, ensures that mowing and other grounds maintenance tasks are complete, makes assignments, and inspects work locations of employees to ensure personnel are performing their duties in a safe and effective manner. Monitors storm drains and ensures that zone personnel keep them clear on a regular basis. Provides leadership and directs corrective measures when necessary to ensure satisfactory performance. Reviews work assignments for completion and assists supervisors with understanding of required landscape tasks. Ensures that work passed down by the Landscape Inspector is addressed in a timely manner. Assists crews with landscape bed maintenance and mowing. Monitors annual spending for the work unit. Recommends changes and improvements in procedures and standards to Grounds leadership. May direct the preparation of flowerbeds for growing annuals in support of the Planting Crew Supervisor. Directs the maintenance of surface drainage and ensures that catch basins are free of debris prior to and during heavy rain events. Serves as or provides an emergency contact person for after-hours callbacks. Trains supervisors as needed in proper maintenance techniques to ensure that landscape beds are free of weeds, vines, and that desired plant material is not damaged during maintenance tasks. Establishes and updates necessary files, documents, records, and reports related to preventative maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment. Operates University vehicles as necessary. Coordinates preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment between Zone staff and Mechanical Shop. May support other areas within Grounds and be assigned special projects as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency and four years' experience, or a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to four years. Must have the ability to work in inclement weather. A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver's License or the ability to obtain one upon hire. Preferred Qualifications The ability to pay attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
