What the Job Involves This is hands-on outdoor work in the South Carolina heat, humidity, and changing weather conditions .

Typical work includes:

Commercial and residential lawn maintenance Commercial mower operation String trimming Blade edging Blowing and final cleanup Shrub pruning Bed maintenance Mulch and pine straw installation Seasonal cleanups Landscape installation and improvement projects Other lawn and landscape work as needed All employees are expected to learn and perform multiple positions on the crew. This is not a mower-only position. Quality + Production We believe professional lawn care requires both quality and efficiency . Our goal is to produce professional-quality work efficiently, consistently, and within the budgeted labor hours established for each property or route whenever conditions allow. Each property has an expected amount of labor time based on the work being performed. These budgeted hours (BH) are used as production targets to help plan routes and measure efficiency.

Employees are expected to:

The expectation is quality, efficiency, accountability, and communication. Lawn Maintenance Technician A Technician at Knight Hammer is not simply a helper. Technicians are expected to develop into professionals who can be trusted to complete routine lawn-maintenance work correctly whether working with a crew or independently.

Technician responsibilities include:

Performing mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, pruning, and other assigned landscape tasks Safely operating commercial lawn and landscape equipment Following route, property, and service instructions Maintaining company quality standards Maintaining a professional production pace throughout the day Working effectively as part of a crew Working independently without requiring a Crew Lead to remain present at all times Completing assigned properties, route segments, or solo service work when assigned Using good judgment when working without direct supervision Communicating property conditions, equipment issues, delays, or unexpected work Helping load, unload, and secure equipment Reporting equipment damage or safety concerns Helping prepare equipment and materials for the next workday Continuing to improve equipment skills, quality, and production as experience increases Technicians who demonstrate strong reliability, productivity, equipment skills, judgment, and leadership potential may advance into greater responsibility. Crew Lead Crew Leads are working members of the crew who also take responsibility for helping manage the route and the people assigned to it.

Crew Lead responsibilities include:

Running an assigned daily route Leading and directing one or more crew members Organizing work based on crew capability Working alongside the crew Maintaining production throughout the day Ensuring service expectations are completed at every property Performing final quality-control checks Correcting missed or incomplete work before leaving the property Safely operating commercial mowing and landscape equipment Driving company vehicles and towing trailers when authorized Safely loading and securing equipment Performing basic vehicle, trailer, and equipment checks Checking mower fluids and basic equipment condition Reporting damage, mechanical problems, or safety concerns promptly Refueling and preparing equipment for the next workday Accurately tracking work and production through company systems Helping train and develop other employees Communicating route, customer, property, or production issues to management A Crew Lead is responsible for more than completing his or her individual task. A successful Crew Lead helps the entire crew finish the route safely, efficiently, and to company standards. Schedule Our goal is to operate around a Monday-Thursday core production schedule whenever staffing, weather, and workload allow.

Normal start time is:

7:30 AM At this time, employees should expect to maintain Monday-Friday availability .

Friday may be used for:

Regular route completion Weather delays Makeup work Overflow Landscape projects Seasonal work Other operational needs As staffing becomes more consistent and routes are completed efficiently, our objective is for Friday to function primarily as a weather, makeup, overflow, or project day rather than a routine production day. Schedules may also change because of holidays, weather, seasonal workload, or project requirements. Employees must have reliable transportation and be able to consistently arrive ready to work at the scheduled start time. Reliability Matters Our routes are planned around having the scheduled people available, so dependable attendance and punctuality are important. We understand that legitimate emergencies happen. What we need is someone who can consistently be counted on, communicates when something comes up, and treats attendance as part of being a professional. Strong equipment skills are valuable, but they are most useful when combined with dependability, communication, and consistency.

Required Qualifications Applicants should have:

Reliable personal transportation to work Ability to consistently report for a 7:30 AM start Ability to work outdoors for a full workday Ability to perform physically demanding lawn and landscape work Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to work effectively as part of a crew Ability to work independently without constant supervision Ability to complete assigned lawn-maintenance work solo when required Ability to maintain a professional work pace Ability to recognize when a problem should be communicated rather than ignored Strong attendance and punctuality Professional behavior around customers and their property Willingness to learn and perform all normal crew tasks Reliable access to a functional smartphone capable of running company-required crew and CRM applications Ability and willingness to use mobile apps for route information, time tracking, job notes, photos, service updates, and other normal field communication Employees are expected to keep their phone sufficiently charged and available during the workday for legitimate company-app and communication needs.
