Estimator/Project Manager - Residential Construction Hovey Custom Builders Hinton, IA Job Details Full-time $75,000 - $85,000 a year 14 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Retirement plan Qualifications Customer communication Coordinating with subcontractors on construction projects Construction management software English Driver's License Construction industry experience Organizational skills Construction subcontract management Managing projects Full Job Description About the Role We are a growing residential construction company seeking an organized, experienced Estimator / Project Manager to oversee projects from initial estimating and planning through construction and final completion. This position combines estimating, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, purchasing, and client communication. You will work closely with ownership to keep projects on schedule, control costs, maintain quality, and develop systems that support our continued growth. Responsibilities Prepare detailed estimates, budgets, scopes of work, and specifications for residential construction projects. Obtain and compare subcontractor bids and supplier quotes, confirming scope coverage and identifying gaps. Develop and maintain project schedules, coordinating subcontractors, material deliveries, inspections, and key milestones. Use JobTread to manage estimates, budgets, schedules, purchase orders, job costs, change orders, and project documentation. Develop and revise floor plans and drawings using SoftPlan, and coordinate documents required for permitting. Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and permitting authorities. Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, verify workmanship, address issues, and reinforce jobsite safety expectations. Track actual costs against budgets, identify potential overruns, and work with ownership on corrective action. Document scope changes and obtain required approvals before additional work proceeds. Keep clients and ownership informed about progress, upcoming decisions, schedule changes, and budget impacts. Manage project closeout, including punch lists, final inspections, and warranty documentation. Help ownership develop repeatable systems and processes that improve estimating, communication, and project execution. Qualifications Experience estimating and managing residential construction projects from planning through completion. Strong working knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, blueprint reading, and applicable building codes. Ability to prepare accurate estimates and manage budgets, subcontractor scopes, and project schedules. Practical field experience and the ability to recognize workmanship issues and resolve construction challenges. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities across multiple active projects. Clear, professional communication with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and team members. Ability to review contracts, understand scope requirements, and track project obligations. Proficiency with construction management software and a willingness to learn our systems. A dependable approach to follow-through, documentation, and accountability. Preferred Experience Experience using JobTread. Experience using SoftPlan or comparable residential design software. Experience developing processes for a growing construction business. Who Will Succeed Here You are comfortable moving between detailed office work and active jobsites. You plan ahead, communicate early, address problems directly, and follow through on commitments. You enjoy working closely with ownership and taking responsibility for both the numbers and the finished project.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
