Job Description

Senior EstimatorPosition OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Estimator to lead cost estimating and preconstruction efforts for commercial and multi-family projects. The Senior Estimator will prepare accurate, competitive estimates, manage bid processes, collaborate with design and project teams during preconstruction, and mentor junior estimators. This role supports business development by providing clear budget guidance and value engineering recommendations to ensure profitable, buildable solutions.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and produce detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid packages for commercial and multi-family construction projects across preconstruction and procurement phases.

Analyze drawings, specifications, and scope documents to develop accurate, timely estimates and identify cost drivers, risks, and opportunities for value engineering.

Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to solicit bids, clarify scope, and verify pricing; evaluate subcontractor proposals and develop cost comparisons.

Prepare and present estimate summaries, cost reports, and bid recommendations to internal stakeholders and clients; support estimating strategy and pricing decisions.

Maintain and update unit price databases, historical cost records, and estimation templates to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Lead risk assessments and contingency planning for projects; identify constructability issues and propose solutions during preconstruction.

Collaborate with project managers during the transition from estimating to execution, ensuring alignment on scope, budgets, and change order handling.

Mentor and train junior estimators, review their work for accuracy, and promote best practices in estimating methods and software.

Support business development by assisting with pricing strategies, proposal responses, and client meetings as needed.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Estimating, or related field, or equivalent experience in construction estimating.

Minimum 7+ years of experience estimating commercial and multi-family construction projects, with a demonstrated track record of successful bids and cost control.

Proven experience in preconstruction activities, value engineering, and constructability reviews.

Strong knowledge of construction means/methods, cost drivers, labor and material pricing, and subcontractor markets.

Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Planswift, Bluebeam, RSMeans, Hard Dollar) and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with BIM and takeoff tools preferred.

Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex cost information clearly to clients and internal teams.

Strong negotiation skills and experience managing subcontractor bid processes and vendor relationships.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Prior experience mentoring junior staff and promoting continuous improvement in estimating processes.
