Job Description

COMPANY OVERVIEW G.M.
McCrossin, Inc. is an AISC Certified Steel Erector and full-service general contractor based in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. For over 70 years, McCrossin has served the commercial and industrial construction markets throughout the Northeast, building a reputation on quality workmanship, competitive pricing, and reliable project delivery. Our project teams build the work we are best known for: water and wastewater treatment facilities, below-grade process structures, industrial plants, and institutional and campus construction. We self-perform concrete, structural steel erection, and process piping, which means our project engineers coordinate real McCrossin crews and production in the field rather than simply administering subcontracted work.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Engineer supports project management and field supervision on commercial, industrial, and municipal construction projects, from mobilization through closeout. You will manage submittals, RFIs, and subcontract documentation, coordinate material and shop drawing tracking, monitor schedule and cost information, and help ensure the work is built to plan, spec, and budget. This role suits an engineer who wants to learn how projects actually get built in the field, not just administered from a desk. Project Engineers here work directly with project managers, superintendents, and self-perform crews, and grow into project management as they take on more responsibility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare, log, and track submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings; coordinate timely review and response with the design team. Assist in developing and maintaining the project schedule, including milestones, subcontractor progress, and look-ahead planning. Support subcontract and purchase order preparation, including scope review, buyout tracking, and change order documentation. Coordinate material and equipment procurement and expediting to support the field schedule. Review contract drawings and specifications to verify constructability, identify conflicts, and support field problem-solving. Maintain daily reports, project photographs, and as-built documentation throughout construction. Track project costs against budget, including labor, material, and subcontractor cost coding, in coordination with the project manager. Assist with quality control and safety documentation, including inspections, testing logs, and non-conformance tracking. Support field layout, quantity verification, and progress measurement for self-performed concrete, steel, and piping work. Participate in owner, subcontractor, and internal progress meetings; prepare meeting minutes and action item logs. Assist with project closeout, including punch lists, O&M manuals, warranties, and record documents.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent field experience. One to five years of experience in commercial, industrial, or heavy civil construction (internships and co-ops count toward experience). Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple submittals, RFIs, and deadlines at once. Working proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and project management/document control software (Sage, Procore, Bluebeam, or comparable). Clear written and verbal communication with subcontractors, suppliers, owners, and design professionals. Willingness to occasionally travel to projects as needed. Preferred Experience on water or wastewater treatment plant, pump station, or other below-grade process structure projects. Familiarity with self-performed concrete formwork, reinforcing steel, structural steel erection, or process piping. Exposure to scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Experience with public bidding, prevailing wage projects, and PennDOT or municipal authority work.
