Job Description

Heavy Equipment Operator Job Summary We are seeking a dependable and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our excavation team. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment on excavation, site development, utility, and earthmoving projects. The ideal candidate has strong equipment operating skills, understands job site safety, takes pride in their work, and can work effectively as part of a crew. Responsibilities Safely operate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, and other construction equipment Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, loading, and general earthmoving operations Excavate around existing utilities and structures safely and accurately Assist with site preparation, underground utility work, drainage, and other excavation activities Follow grade stakes, elevations, and job site plans as directed Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean and professional condition Work closely with laborers, foremen, truck drivers, and other equipment operators to maintain efficient job site operations Follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and established job site procedures Perform general job site duties as needed to support the crew Complete other duties as assigned Qualifications Previous heavy equipment operating experience required Experience operating excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, and/or similar construction equipment Excavation, site development, underground utility, or earthwork experience strongly preferred Ability to safely work around underground and overhead utilities Ability to understand grades, elevations, and basic job site plans Strong awareness of job site and equipment safety Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and job site conditions Ability to perform physical tasks and lift 50+ pounds when necessary Strong work ethic, dependability, and ability to work effectively as part of a team Valid driver's license required CDL is a plus but not required Work Environment Outdoor excavation and construction job sites Regular exposure to weather, dust, mud, noise, vibration, and heavy machinery Work may involve uneven terrain, trenches, active equipment, and changing job site conditions Schedule & Pay Full-time Competitive hourly pay based on experience and skill level Overtime opportunities available Schedule may vary depending on project and seasonal workload Benefits Overtime opportunities Paid time off Health insurance On-the-job training and advancement opportunities Opportunity to grow within an established excavation company
