Job Description

at City of Caldwell in Caldwell, Idaho, United States Job Description This position is an entry level position in the Infrastructure Operator series. The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform routine and semi-skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City's water distribution infrastructure, including mains, valves, hydrants, and service lines. The work is performed under direct supervision of the infrastructure supervisor with limited latitude for independent judgment and initiative. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions, roadway traffic, related hazards, and confined spaces. Responsibilities Assists with installation and repair of water mains, valves, hydrants, and service connections. Performs trenching, pipe laying, backfilling, and restoration work. Operates light equipment and hand tools in support of water infrastructure projects. Operates a dump truck to and from job sites, hauling road base spoils, concrete, asphalt, etc. Operates a vac truck to locate leaks, expose mains, pothole, etc. Sets up work zones, including traffic control devices, to maintain public safety. Locates and exposes existing utilities under supervision. Flushes hydrants and exercises valves as directed. Performs routine maintenance on tools, vehicles, and equipment. Assists with water main shutdowns and pressure testing. Completes daily logs and work order documentation. Responds to after-hours emergencies. Consistently keeps supervisor and relevant team members informed about work progress, current and potential issues, and proactively suggests new or improved solutions to address challenges. Attends approved meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, reviews materials to remain current on the principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas. Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner. Communicates and coordinates regularly with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities. Respects the opinion of others and maintains a positive and professional working relationship with colleagues, supervisors, and stakeholders. Performs other duties as assigned.
