Position Summary & Responsibilities Position Summary:
The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Superintendent and serves as a member of the executive leadership team, providing leadership and oversight of key operational, compliance, and administrative functions of South Central Regional Mental Health Hospital. This position directly supervises assigned leader and senior leaders, including the Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Compliance, and ensures their areas of responsibility remain aligned with the hospital's mission, strategic priorities, regulatory requirements, and operational goals. The Assistant Superintendent supports hospital-wide decision-making, organizational performance, policy development, and continuous improvement while promoting effective communication and collaboration across departments. The position serves as a key advisor to the Superintendent and, when designated, directs hospital operations in the Superintendent's absence. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Executive Leadership and Organizational Oversight Provides executive-level leadership and organizational oversight in support of the Superintendent and the strategic direction of South Central Regional Mental Health Hospital. Directs hospital operations in the absence of the Superintendent when designated and serves as a key liaison between the Superintendent, executive leadership, department leaders, and staff. Ensures the Superintendent is appropriately informed of significant operational, compliance, safety, workforce, and organizational matters. Provides executive oversight of assigned organizational functions through direct supervision of senior leaders, including the Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Compliance. Ensures operational, compliance, regulatory, and support service functions are effectively coordinated and aligned with hospital priorities. Holds assigned leaders accountable for departmental performance, regulatory compliance, operational effectiveness, resource stewardship, and achievement of established organizational goals. Evaluates hospital-wide systems and performance to identify organizational risks, operational barriers, and opportunities for improvement. Facilitates resolution of complex or cross-functional issues and ensures appropriate collaboration among clinical, operational, compliance, and administrative leadership. Supervision and Staff Development Provides direct supervision and performance management of assigned senior leaders, including the Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Compliance, and provides executive oversight of departments reporting through those positions. Establishes clear expectations for leadership performance, accountability, communication, collaboration, and achievement of organizational priorities. Mentors and develops senior leaders and supports succession planning and leadership development throughout assigned areas. Evaluates leadership effectiveness, provides timely feedback, and ensures appropriate action is taken to address performance or operational concerns. Promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Serves as a role model for effective executive leadership and supports leaders in developing their teams and strengthening organizational performance. Organizational Leadership Promotes effective communication, collaboration, and coordination across clinical, administrative, and support service departments. Serves as a resource to hospital leadership in addressing organizational challenges, resolving barriers, and improving the flow of information across the hospital. Leads and participates in interdisciplinary committees, workgroups, and hospital-wide initiatives and supports organizational efforts related to patient and employee safety, quality improvement, emergency preparedness, regulatory readiness, and operational effectiveness. Develops collaborative relationships across the organization and promotes a culture focused on patient-centered care, accountability, teamwork, and achievement of hospital goals. Strategic Planning and Policy Management Collaborates with the Superintendent and executive leadership team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital's strategic priorities, goals, and operational plans. Assists in translating organizational strategy into actionable initiatives and monitors progress toward established objectives. Leads and supports the development, review, implementation, and maintenance of administrative policies and procedures to ensure alignment with hospital operations, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and organizational priorities. Evaluates systems, processes, and organizational structures to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, effectiveness, and use of resources. Participates in planning for future hospital needs and recommends strategies to support organizational growth, sustainability, and continuous improvement Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
Four years of experience in business administration, healthcare administration, or similar field. At least five years of administrative and supervisory experience Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong flexibility to handle changing priorities and situations Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize deadlines, and maintain accurate records
Preferred Requirements:
Six years of experience in business administration, healthcare administration, or similar field Consulting experience with a focus on operation management Experience overseeing the functions of a department, program, and/or organization Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations regarding program certification. Experience with the development of policies and procedures
