Job Description

RECEIVING INSPECTOR
(STARFALL) SpaceX is seeking exceptional employees to enable the success of its Starfall, Dragon, and Starship programs at the Bloomfield, Connecticut site. The Receiving Inspector will receive, inspect, kit, and ship the textiles, hardware, and related materials that the soft goods shop consumes and produces. This hybrid role combines receiving inspection, inventory control, and shipping, including flight-critical and ordnance shipments. This role will have a close feedback loop with engineering, production, and the greater SpaceX team in our pursuit of making access to and from space as safe and reliable as possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Unpack incoming shipments; count, weigh, and measure against packing lists and bills of lading; transact the receipts, print routing labels, and place unverified or nonconforming material on hold/quarantine Validate part number, quantity, revision, and condition against purchase orders, quality clauses, drawings, and specifications; pull the correct drawing revision for the receipt Review quality documentation (certifications, specifications, certificates of conformance) for completeness; upload and maintain receiving records Inspect incoming materials using visual methods and calibrated tools (scales, micrometers, calipers as required), approve or reject items and document non-conformances Perform tension testing of thread and other textiles per procedure Fill requests for inventory from work orders: pick, kit, and deliver material to the correct shop-floor location, maintaining lot/serial traceability and BOM accuracy; communicate material-preparedness status so production is not delayed Put away material in labeled bins and racks; de-kit unused material; receive finished goods from the floor; and keep physical locations and electronic scan locations accurate Control shelf-life lots where required Perform rotating cycle counts and inventory audits; reconcile discrepancies; and review location-accuracy / stagnant-inventory reports Prepare, pack, label, weigh, and stage outgoing shipments, including flight-critical next-flight-out (NFO) and supplier returns; coordinate carrier pickup; maintain shipping-supply stock Handle ordnance and dangerous-goods shipments; obtain and maintain required certifications Interface with production, engineering, purchasing, and carriers to resolve shortages, damages, and receipt discrepancies; create issue tickets as required Keep receiving, inventory, and shipping areas organized; follow FOD, PPE, traceability, and material-handling procedures. Operate forklifts or pallet jacks per safety procedure when required
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalency certificate 1+ years of experience in receiving, inspection, inventory, or material handling in a manufacturing environment
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience with an ERP/WMS (Warp or equivalent) and handheld/RF scanners Hazardous-materials or ordnance shipping certification, or ability to obtain it Experience operating a forklift, pallet jack, or other powered industrial equipment Experience in aerospace, textiles, or soft goods Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) Strong communication skills (written and oral) Proficiency in other languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to work long hours (10+) and weekends/holidays as necessary Must be willing to work all shifts and overtime as needed Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods; lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling are generally required Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted Must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to handle and ship ordnance and dangerous goods Must be able to travel to remote sites if required Ability to pass Space Force and Air Force background checks to support travel to Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
