Cleanroom Technician Job Description The Cleanroom Technician supports the production of laboratory media and related products in a controlled cleanroom environment. This role works in areas such as the Automatic Plates Room (APR), Manual Plates Room (MPR), and Tube (TVS) departments to prepare, package, and inspect products like petri dishes and tubes. You will follow detailed work instructions, complete documentation accurately, and maintain high quality and cleanliness standards while working on your feet for the entire shift. Responsibilities Operate cleanroom production equipment in the Automatic Plates Room (APR) and Manual Plates Room (MPR) to produce media that is dispensed into petri dishes. Handle and process petri dishes, including preparing media, monitoring dispensing, and cleaning petri dishes as needed. Work in environments where you may see sheep blood in bags and assist with related cleaning and handling tasks in a safe and controlled manner. Perform sorting, packaging, labeling, and palletizing of tubes in the TVS (Tubes) department, following all work instructions and quality standards. Carry out packing, quality assurance, and production tasks to ensure products meet specifications and are ready for shipment. Complete accurate documentation of packaging procedures and production activities throughout the shift, including required paperwork and records. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and cleanroom protocols to maintain a controlled and sanitary production environment. Use basic math and a calculator to perform measurements, counts, and production calculations as required by the process. Lift, twist, push, and move materials and products weighing up to 30 pounds repetitively during the shift. Stand and work on your feet for the entire shift while performing production, assembly, and packaging tasks. Work in small teams or independently, depending on the assignment and production needs. Adhere to all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, hair nets, safety glasses, and face coverings. Remain flexible and available for overtime when required, including additional hours at the end of shifts and occasional extra days during busy seasons. Essential Skills At least 6 months of experience in production or manufacturing environments. Ability to work comfortably in a production manufacturing environment, including cleanroom production areas. Ability to stand on your feet for the full shift. Ability to lift, twist, and push up to 30 pounds repetitively. Ability to speak, read, and write basic English to follow work instructions and complete documentation. Basic math skills and the ability to use a calculator for simple calculations. High school diploma or GED equivalent. Comfort working in a climate-controlled cleanroom environment and following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Willingness to work required overtime, including extended shifts and occasional additional days during busy periods. Comfort working around laboratory media and biological materials, including exposure to sheep blood in bags. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous cleanroom experience is a plus. Experience with general production, manufacturing assembly, or manufacturing processes. Familiarity with work instructions and documentation in a manufacturing or cleanroom environment. Experience with packaging, inspection, and quality assurance in a production setting. Ability to work effectively both in small groups and independently. You will work either in small groups or independently, depending on the department and assignment.
Shifts vary by department:
APR and MPR offer multiple shifts across weekdays, and TVS operates primarily on Monday through Thursday schedules, with overtime that may include extended hours or additional days during busy seasons. The role requires being on your feet for the entire shift and performing repetitive lifting and movement of up to 30 pounds. The dress code includes safety shoes (steel or composite toe), with jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and scrubs acceptable as long as they are appropriate. The facility provides and requires hair nets, safety glasses, and surgical-style face coverings as part of standard cleanroom and safety protocols, ensuring a professional, safety-focused work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lenexa, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
