Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Unlock the opportunity to support students and foster communication in a vibrant school setting near Tacoma, WA. This full-time contract role offers the chance to utilize your sign language expertise in a dynamic educational environment, working closely with students, staff, and educators. You will have the satisfaction of helping create accessible, inclusive learning experiences for all.
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred Understanding of Deaf culture and best practices for accessibility National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent, or eligibility for certification Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills Passion for promoting inclusive education
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language—and vice versa—during classroom instruction, assemblies, and meetings Support Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in accessing curriculum and participating in school activities Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and parents to facilitate a supportive learning environment Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreter standards Participate in team meetings and contribute insights to individualized education plans (IEPs) Assist in clarifying assignments and classroom instructions, providing equal access for all students This position is a full-time commitment, offering 37.5 hours per week throughout the school year.
