Job Description
GENERAL DUTIES
Support the Pilot Rock School District athletic objective, policy of interscholastic athletics, and Pilot Rock School District Athletic Code. The District believes that extra-curricular activities are an integral part of school life. All students, regardless of their ability, should take part if possible to be able to grow physically, intellectually, and socially through participation. Coaches organize and conduct the athletic programs to meet the needs of the school district and their participants.
KNOWLEDGE
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibilities and essential functions satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or its equivalent
Experience in and/or knowledge of the sport, coaching techniques, and student supervision
Must have current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
Must have current Concussion Management and other trainings required by the OSAA or ability to complete
Successfully pass fingerprint and background check
SKILLS:
Proficient oral and written communication skills
Ability to work harmoniously with others and collaborate solutions to concerns
Ability and willingness to effectively communicate in verbal and written modes with students, parents, coaches, staff, athletic director and administration
Ability and willingness to perform coaching responsibilities in accordance with school and District procedures and policies
Ability to maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons
Basic use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications
Physical ability to perform required work
Be able to work independently and without close supervision
Work well with and enjoy the company of students
Ability to meet with and deal effectively with the public
Demonstrate an aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
Have the ability to follow directions
Ability to assess situations and act swiftly and appropriately and with sound judgment for the safety and wellbeing of students and staff
Ability to perform multiple tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions
RESPONSIBILITIES and
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment
Annually pass the required online trainings by the District's assigned due-date
Follow site and/or District protocol for reporting absences
Utilize the District's electronic systems and application related to the job
The head coach is expected to exhibit exceptional integrity and character at all times
Be a positive role model for athletes and fans and to promote good sportsmanship
Cultivate a program culture that demands respect between participants
Organize the specific athletic program so that it is consistent with the District and Oregon School Activities Association goals and objectives for students/athletes
Oversee the assistant coach(es) that contribute in the Grades 9-12 athletic program
Actively participate in and support the youth program that feeds the high school program
Meet with players and parents prior to or at the beginning of the season to cover all participation expectations
Commit to continued professional development and improvement of the knowledge of skill development, training techniques, fundamentals, game strategy and the rules of the sport
Collaborate with the athletic director to arrange for transportation and finances for contests
Be responsible for the care, distribution and collection of District equipment and supplies
Report participant injuries following District procedures
Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students, parents, coaches, staff and administration
Communicate with athletes in a manner that models respect; Refrain from using profanity or derogatory language at participants, officials, parents or other associated with the program
Ensure that athletes have turned in all required paperwork before allowing them to participate in practices
Promote interest in and garner enthusiasm for the athletic program to students, parents, and the community
Assume responsibility for the conduct and performance of program assistant coaches
Teach fundamentals and skills of the sport
Enforce all training rules and school regulations pertaining to athletes
Demonstrate proper active supervision during all scheduled activities of students/athletes including, but not limited to, games, practices, locker room and transportation
Assume responsibility for the facilities they use so as to maintain them
Make recommendations about the purchase of athletic equipment pertaining to their sport
Keep an accurate inventory of uniforms and equipment for their sport
Take extreme care not to jeopardize the health and safety of athletes
Work effectively under the leadership of the athletic director and administrator
Take part in the year-end athletic banquet
Effectively communicate rules, procedures, and fundamentals of the sport to the players
Motivate athletes to prepare effectively and efficiently for athletic contests
Understand the strengths and weaknesses of the players
Attend all meetings as required by the athletic director, administration or league leadership
Report any behavior that endangers the physical, emotional or mental safety of anyone in the program to the athletic director and administration within 24 hours
Perform other reasonable duties that from time to time may be assigned to meet the usual and unusual demands placed on the organization

Salary to be established by the Pilot Rock Education Association in accordance with negotiated agreement with the Pilot Rock School Board of Directors. Schedule and assignments to be established by the Principal.
