Instructional Designer

Job Description

Welcome to TXB! TXB stands for Texas Born. That means we're big city, open country, and everything in-between. It also means that we have Texas values, the same values that we've built our brand around—authenticity, hospitality, and integrity. At TXB, our purpose is to strive to make our guests, team members, and communities better off for having known us. As we like to say, we "leave 'em better," every day and every way. Join us in taking our business to another level, and give back to the communities that give so much to us. Nearly every new hire across our stores learns the job through training our team designs and builds. We are looking for the person who builds it.

Instructional Designer -

Learning & Development Location:

Job Summary:
This is a content-building role, not a training-delivery role. As an Instructional Designer at TXB, you will spend the majority of your time authoring e-learning in Articulate 360, structuring courses and learning paths in Schoox, writing job aids and manuals, and producing the video and graphics that go inside them. You are not primarily standing in front of a classroom, and you are not primarily running reports. Our learners are hourly, shift-based team members spread across many stores. They learn on a phone or a back-office terminal, in short sessions, between guests. Training that works here is short, visual, mobile-friendly, and built for a first-time job holder. What You Will Build
  • Onboarding and role-based learning paths for store team members, shift leaders, and store managers.
  • Interactive e-learning modules — scenario branching, knowledge checks, and simulations of the systems our teams actually use.
  • Food safety, alcohol and tobacco, fuel, safety, and HR compliance training, built to hold up to an audit.
  • Short-form video, screen recordings, job aids, quick reference guides, and printed manuals.
  • Assessments and certifications, and the reporting that proves who completed what. Essential Functions Instructional Design and Content Development
  • Design and build e-learning courses from scratch — storyboard, script, build, test, publish, and revise.
  • Conduct needs assessments with operations leaders and subject matter experts to identify real performance gaps, then determine what genuinely requires training versus a job aid, a process change, or a coaching conversation.
  • Apply sound instructional design practice: adult learning principles, measurable learning objectives, scaffolded practice, and assessment aligned to objective.
  • Write clearly for a working audience — plain language, short sentences, no corporate filler.
  • Revise existing content when processes, products, or regulations change. Maintenance is a standing part of this role, not an afterthought. Media Production
  • Record, edit, and produce short-form training video and screen captures.
  • Create or source graphics, icons, and imagery consistent with TXB brand standards.
  • Manage audio, voiceover, captioning, and accessibility considerations for published content. Learning Platform Administration
  • Administer the
LMS:
build course shells and learning paths, set enrollment rules and due dates, manage user groups and permissions, and publish and version content.
  • Publish and troubleshoot SCORM and xAPI packages, including tracking, completion criteria, and mobile playback issues.
  • Partner with IT and the platform vendor on integrations, user provisioning, and defect resolution. Compliance and Measurement
  • Track completion against regulatory and internal requirements; escalate gaps before they become findings.
  • Build recurring reports and dashboards on training progress and compliance metrics for HR and operations leadership.
  • Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes so training materials and practices remain accurate.
  • Collect learner and manager feedback, evaluate whether training changed behavior on the floor, and revise accordingly. Partnership with the Field
  • Work directly with department heads and subject matter experts to translate operational expertise into teachable content.
  • Visit stores periodically to observe how training lands in practice and to pressure-test new content before it launches.
  • Equip store leaders and internal facilitators with the materials and guidance they need to coach their teams.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Manages cross-functional relationships within all departments
  • Demonstrates ability to build networks of people and utilizes resources in person and remotely
  • Demonstrates ability to work on tight deadlines in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Demonstrates and practices corporate values, behaviors, and acts in an ethical and lawful manner at all times including being a person of integrity, dependable, and inspirational
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate at all levels of the Company; clearly and concisely express opinions, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Demonstrates the ability to work the hours relevant to current priorities and objectives of the department Our Toolset You will work in these every day. Experience with them is a strong advantage, and named experience will move an application to the top of the stack — but demonstrated instructional design and authoring skill in comparable tools is what we are screening for.
  • Schoox — our learning management system. Course and curriculum building, learning paths, user and group administration, SCORM/AICC/xAPI/cmi5 content upload, and reporting.
  • Articulate 360 — primarily Storyline 360 for interactive and branching content, Rise 360 for responsive course builds, and Review 360 for stakeholder feedback cycles.
  • Video and graphics tools — screen capture and video editing (Camtasia, Premiere, or equivalent) and design tools (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or equivalent).
  • Microsoft 365 — Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
Comparable platform experience counts. If you have built in Rise or Storyline and administered a different LMS — Workday Learning, Cornerstone, Docebo, Litmos, Absorb, 360Learning, or similar — tell us what you built.
Qualifications:
Experience, Competencies, and Education Required
  • Three or more years building e-learning and training content as a primary job responsibility — not as an occasional add-on to a trainer, operations, or HR generalist role.
  • Hands-on administration experience in a learning management system — building courses and curricula, not only assigning and reporting on them.
  • Demonstrated instructional design skill: you can explain how you wrote learning objectives, chose an approach, and measured whether it worked.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex or technical procedures simple for an entry-level audience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple builds against deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning and Development, Communications, Human Resources, or a related field — or equivalent demonstrated experience. Preferred
  • Direct experience with Schoox and Articulate 360 (Storyline 360 and Rise 360).
  • Experience designing for hourly, high-turnover, shift-based, multi-location workforces — convenience, restaurant, grocery, retail, hospitality, distribution, or similar.
  • Video production and editing experience beyond basic screen capture.
  • Familiarity with the compliance landscape for our business: food safety, responsible alcohol and tobacco sales, OSHA, and fuel handling.
  • Experience building accessible content, including captioning and readability considerations.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish, or experience producing training in more than one language.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Office-based role at the TXB Support Center, with occasional travel to store locations (less than 10%).
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for periodic store visits.
  • Occasional work outside standard business hours to support launches, peak periods, or store schedules.
  • Prolonged periods at a workstation; occasional lifting of training materials or recording equipment up to 25 pounds.
Benefit Opportunities:
