Not Benefit Eligible Summary:
Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer/ ED, and under the direct supervision of the Chief Program Officer/ Project Director, provides direct academic and student support to TRIO participants at designated school sites and program activities. The position assists students with academic success, tutoring, college and career exploration, financial aid, and postsecondary planning while supporting workshops, events, field trips, and other program activities.
Vision:
The TRIO Peer provides students with consistent, accessible, and supportive academic and college-access services that strengthen their confidence, preparation, and ability to pursue their educational goals while contributing to a positive and well-organized TRIO program environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day individual, small-group, and large-group support to TRIO participants related to academic success, college and career exploration, financial aid, postsecondary planning, and other student needs. Support the achievement of annual program objectives and performance measures by providing services and completing assigned activities that contribute to required grant goals, student outcomes, and program percentages. Monitor student progress toward required program outcomes; including, but not limited to financial aid applications, postsecondary applications and enrollment, rigorous programs of study, secondary school completion, and year-to-year student progression, and communicate concerns or gaps to program leadership. Contribute to required program reporting and accountability, including the collection and documentation of information used for Annual Performance Reports (APRs), audits and other reports required by the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Labor, and applicable funding agencies, in accordance with grant requirements and funding regulations. Provide academic assistance and tutoring to TRIO participants in appropriate subject areas, individually or in large groups, to reinforce classroom learning, strengthen study skills, and support academic progress in accordance with program requirements. Maintain a consistent and professional presence at designated schools and assist students in accessing TRIO services, resources, information, and opportunities. Communicate with students regarding program services, workshops, events, deadlines, college opportunities, and other activities, and encourage participation in available TRIO services. Support in the planning and implementation of workshops, presentations, college visits, field trips, parent activities, recruitment activities, and other student programming as assigned; including but not limited to: conducting bi-weekly large group student activities. Assist with student supervision, attendance, check-in and check-out, materials, meals, transportation logistics, set-up and breakdown, and other responsibilities necessary for safe and organized program activities. Assist program staff with organizing office spaces, preparing student and program materials, maintaining supplies, distributing documents, organizing files, and completing other routine administrative or operational tasks. Accurately document assigned student contacts and services using established program procedures and systems and submit required information to the appropriate program staff in a timely manner. Work cooperatively with leadership and all other Wahupa staff to respond to student needs, support program activities, and contribute to the successful delivery of services. Perform other duties as assigned.
Ability to:
Build positive and supportive relationships with TRIO students, families, school personnel, and colleagues while working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds. Provide academic support and tutoring in appropriate subject areas, explain academic concepts clearly, and adjust support based on individual student needs and levels of understanding. Communicate college, career, financial aid, and postsecondary information clearly and appropriately through individual support, small-group activities, workshops, and student interactions. Support and participate in program activities including workshops, college visits, field trips, student events, parent activities, and other large-scale program services. Follow established procedures and direction from Program Directors and Coordinators, complete assigned responsibilities in a timely manner, and contribute effectively to a collaborative team environment. Maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality when recording student services and handling student information in accordance with FERPA, organizational policies, and applicable TRIO requirements. Organize and prioritize assigned responsibilities including student services, tutoring, program materials, office support, and event preparation while recognizing and appropriately communicating student or program needs to program leadership. This job description is subject to modification within the first 90 days of employment to align with evolving organizational needs, structure, and priorities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, higher education administration, or a related field. Two (2) or more years of professional experience working with low-income, first-generation, or historically underserved students, preferably in TRIO or a similar college-access program. Experience providing academic, college, career, financial aid, or postsecondary advising to students. Experience developing and maintaining positive relationships with schools, parents/guardians, community organizations, colleges, and other stakeholders. Knowledge of student recruitment, outreach, retention, and engagement strategies. Ability to relate effectively to students and families from diverse cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Office 365, databases, email, calendars, and other technology used to document and coordinate student services. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for workshops, college visits, field trips, community events, and other program activities. Reliable transportation and ability to travel between schools, community locations, program events, and organizational activities as required. Must pass a background check and TB test. Effective time management and work scope prioritization with a high level of confidentiality. Must be familiar with TRIO regulations, Federal/State law, and FERPA regulations.
