Job Description

Kindergarten Teacher The Laurel School | Cape Cod, Massachusetts The Laurel School is seeking a warm, caring, and enthusiastic Kindergarten Teacher to join our elementary school team. At Laurel, we believe children learn best when they feel known, supported, and genuinely excited to come to school each day. Our Kindergarten program provides students with the opportunity, freedom, and support to explore their interests, build independence, develop confidence, and grow as learners within a close-knit school community. Our approach is Reggio Emilia-inspired and rooted in project-based learning , allowing students to explore ideas through hands-on experiences, meaningful questions, collaboration, creativity, and discovery. We value the ideas and interests our students bring into the classroom and believe teachers are partners in the learning process. We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about working with young children and who values relationships, creativity, collaboration, and thoughtful, child-centered learning. About the Role The Kindergarten Teacher will create a welcoming, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment where each child feels valued and supported. The teacher will plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate learning experiences while incorporating Reggio Emilia-inspired practices and project-based learning . The ideal teacher will be comfortable following children's interests and questions and using those interests as opportunities to build meaningful learning experiences across academic areas.
Responsibilities include:
Creating a warm, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment Designing engaging, hands-on learning experiences inspired by children's interests, questions, and ideas Using project-based learning to encourage curiosity, problem-solving, collaboration, creativity, and deeper exploration Incorporating Reggio Emilia-inspired practices, including observation, documentation, inquiry, and the use of the classroom environment as an important part of the learning experience Supporting the academic, social, emotional, and developmental growth of each student Encouraging children to become confident, independent thinkers and learners Observing and documenting student learning and using those observations to guide future experiences Differentiating instruction to support individual learning styles, strengths, and needs Building positive and meaningful relationships with students and families Communicating regularly and thoughtfully with families about their child's growth and classroom experience Collaborating closely with colleagues, specialists, and school administration Participating in school events and community activities Maintaining a safe, organized, joyful, and engaging classroom The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who: Has experience working with Kindergarten or early elementary-aged children Has an understanding of or interest in Reggio Emilia-inspired education and project-based learning Is nurturing, patient, creative, and dependable Enjoys learning alongside children and following their interests and questions Believes strongly in the importance of relationships and connection Sees children as capable, curious, and active participants in their own learning Can create structure while still allowing children meaningful opportunities to explore and be independent Is comfortable observing, documenting, reflecting, and adapting learning experiences based on children's needs and interests Communicates openly and respectfully with families and colleagues Works well as part of a collaborative team Brings warmth, energy, humor, and a genuine love of working with children A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field is preferred. Teaching certification and/or relevant classroom experience is strongly encouraged. About The Laurel School The Laurel School is a independent school serving children from Toddler through Grade 5 on Cape Cod. Our school community is built around connection, curiosity, and care . Teachers at Laurel have the opportunity to know their students well, develop meaningful relationships, and create learning experiences that are responsive to the children in their classroom. Our 2.5-acre campus provides children with indoor and outdoor spaces designed for exploration and learning, including multiple playgrounds, a greenhouse, and open spaces where children can learn through hands-on experiences. Most importantly, Laurel is a community where relationships matter, children are known, and teachers are valued . Schedule Monday-Friday, 7:45 AM-3:15 PM This is a full-time, school-year position.
