This position is responsiblefor conducting fundraising and philanthropic efforts on behalf of the university. Assists in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, andsoliciting current and prospective donors. Manages a portfolio of donors with capacity to make gifts of $5,000 or more.
MAJOR DUTIES
Major/Leadership Gift Fundraising75% Actively manage a focused portfolio of major gift prospects and donors by guiding their cultivation,solicitation, and stewardship while at the same time setting goals to expand the base of major gift prospects: Advance individualrelationships that result in philanthropic contributions for the university Organize in-person visits between prospects and keyuniversity personnel for purposes of cultivating relationships and making solicitations. Manage and solicit a portfolio of 125-150major gift prospective and current donors, conducting at least 150 personal visits annually. Devise personalized engagement plansfor each assigned prospect that include strategies of engagement and solicitations. Give presentations to communicate thefundraising priorities and needs for Middle Georgia State University Travel to visit with donors within the state of Georgia andbordering states. Special Events 5% Assist with foundation and alumni events and projects. Operations 20% Attend and participate in University Advancement meetings. Gather, record, and properly store information about prospectsand donors utilizing the Raiser's Edge database to manage prospective donor strategies and moves, documenting all prospect interactions in acomplete and timely fashion. Other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Development Officer & Vice President for UniversityAdvancement/ Executive Director of the Middle Georgia State University Foundation.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge ofdevelopment and fundraising program principles and best practices. Knowledge of marketing principles and methods. Knowledgeof the principles and practices involved in the solicitation and securing of major gifts. Skill in collaborating with multipleconstituents. Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in decision-making and problemsolving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and writtencommunication. Ability to synthesize and make data driven decisions.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
This position is located in the OfficeUniversity Advancement with operational direction and supervision by the Chief Development Officer & Vice President for UniversityAdvancement/ Executive Director of the Middle Georgia State University Foundation, who assigns work in terms of department goals andobjectives, and reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of department activities.

Guidelinesinclude university policies and procedures, University System of Georgia policies and procedures, the Association of FundraisingProfessionals Code of Ethical Principles and Standards and Donor Bill of Rights, Council for Advancement and Support of Education standard,and the Board of Regents naming policy. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied duties in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors to theuniversity. The purpose of this position is to manage and direct university fundraising efforts. Success in this positioncontributes to the successful raising of private funds in support of university operations.
CONTACTS
Contacts are typically with major gift prospects, co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, alumni, businessand community leaders, representatives of other colleges and universities, and members of the general public. Contacts are typicallyto give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to motivate or influence people, or to justify, defend or settle matters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORKENVIRONMENT
The work requires travel to meet with major gift prospects and other campuses. The work istypically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently standing, or walking. The work is typically performedin an office, at event venue locations, and off-campus meetings. The work occasionally involves stooping, bending, lifting heavyobjects, and other physical activity involved with setting up events. Flexible working hours are required.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
Educational Requirements Minimum of abaccalaureate degree. Other Required Qualifications Ability to manage an active portfolio of 125-150 major gift prospectsin all aspects of the development cycle. Ability to develop, maintain and grow interpersonal relationships including with universityalumni, donors, friends, corporate partners, administrators, faculty, and staff. Knowledgeable of donor database, contact management andtracking systems, preferably Raisers Edge Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy andprofessionalism. Excellent organizational and project management skills and ability to prioritize workload in a timely manner to completeassignments with many deadlines and competing requirements. Ability to communicate well, and build rapport quickly with donors, faculty,and colleagues. Required Experience Minimum of 3-5 years (direct or equivalent) experience managing high level donorrelationships with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $10,000 and above.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility:
Thisposition may supervise junior development officers and coordinators.
