Job Description

SUMMARY The Lead Teacher must possess knowledge of the ways in which children develop an understanding of the needs, interest, and abilities of individual children. This person needs the ability to build a good public image for the Head Start program. The Lead Teacher should have the ability to use good judgment in making decisions (in accordance with CCA Head Start policies and procedures) regarding effective operation of center, give instructions and see that each person in the center carries out duties and responsibilities as stated in job description.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Primary 1. Supervise all center staff members using sound judgment in making decisions in accordance with CCA Head Start policies and procedures and State Day Care laws, giving instructions and overseeing that each person in center carries out duties and responsibilities as stated in job description. 2. Regularly communicate center business with supervisor. 3. Assume responsibility of maintaining proper functioning, security and cleanliness of center, property, and equipment. 4. Maintain and insure that all center children and staff records are accurate and up to date. 5. Be involved in evaluating sessions with center staff. 6. Assume responsibility for securing, encouraging and coordinate with Family Services Case Manager in arranging parent activities. Provide community with information concerning Head Start by program-wide newsletter and supervision of parent newsletter. 7. Conduct yearly observations of center staff and arrange/conduct bi-monthly staffing sessions with center staff. 8. Disseminate information from Center Director meetings and work collectively to develop classroom problem solving techniques. 9. Make referrals to supervisor on behalf of entire staff. 10. Submit timesheets, absentee, meal, and other reports to supervisor. 11. Assume responsibility for isolation of sick children and notification of child's parents. 12. Collect and review weekly lesson plans from all teachers and submit to supervisor. 13. Arrange and maintain a safe, clean, attractive physical environment conducive to learning through hands-on experience. 14. Conduct, supervise, and physically participate in daily classroom activities. 15. Plan and implement lesson plans appropriately to meet the needs of individual children. 16. Ride buses/vans on a rotating schedule and assist driver in maintaining safety, order and drive. 17. Direct and coordinate duties of Teacher Assistant. 18. Encourage and secure volunteer services of parents and community in class. 19. Maintain and document ongoing communication with parents concerning child's developmental growth. 20. Make at least two yearly home visits for each child. 21. Attend at least six parent meetings. 22. Engage in ongoing communication with parents concerning child's developmental growth.
LEAD TEACHER 2 23.
Engage in ongoing training and education in field on Early Childhood Education/Child Development. 24. Be involved in planning training sessions with center staff. 25. Maintain and insure that each child's records are accurate and up to date. 26. Comply with agency policies. 27. Be professional in not discussing center affairs outside its doors. 28. Conduct daily meal counts. 29. Carry out other duties as assigned. Secondary 1. Incumbent may be required to maintain travel logs.
