We are not a classroom that goes outside — we are a forest school, rooted in a research-backed approach to early childhood education in the outdoors. Our small-group program serves children ages 3-6 through free play, child-led exploration, and hands-on discovery outdoors, in every season. The Position We are looking for a passionate, grounded educator who loves being outside as much as the kids do. This is a part-time morning position supporting a small group of preschool-age children in a forest school setting. You will help facilitate circle time, guide outdoor exploration, support unstructured play, and be a warm, steady presence for children and families. This is not a traditional classroom role. If you thrive outside, think on your feet, and believe in the power of mud, pine needles, and fresh air — we want to hear from you. Schedule Monday through Friday, 9:00am-12:30pm 16-20 hours per week Year-round program Responsibilities Facilitate morning circle time and daily outdoor programming Support child-led play and exploration in a forest setting Assist with animal care and garden activities Maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging outdoor environment Communicate warmly and consistently with families Help with light setup and cleanup before and after sessions Adapt programming to seasonal changes and weather conditions What We're Looking For Genuine love of the outdoors in all seasons and all weather — rain, snow, mud, and sunshine alike Experience working with young children ages 3-6 in an educational or childcare setting Calm, patient, and playful presence Comfortable with ambiguity and child-led learning CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain before start date Early childhood education coursework or degree a plus but not required — the right fit matters more What We Offer $19.50-$22.00/hour depending on experience A genuinely unique and meaningful place to work Small team, close community, and a program you can be proud of The chance to help build something from the ground up Wild Iris Forest School is an equal opportunity employer committed to building an inclusive, welcoming community for children and staff alike.
