Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher

Job Description

Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Long Term Special Education Teacher for a temporary position at Wooster Middle School. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs. This role will involve developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), collaborating with staff and families, and supporting students in achieving their academic and social goals. Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to create an inclusive classroom environment that supports all learners.
  • Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods and materials accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and IEP goals, providing regular updates to families and school administration.
  • Work closely with parents and guardians to communicate student progress and address any concerns.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review and update IEPs and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in both individual and small group settings.
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation, engagement, and respect for diversity.
  • Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in professional development opportunities. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education for the appropriate grade level.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a middle school setting.
  • Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and staff.
  • Ability to create a supportive and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using technology for educational purposes and record-keeping.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about current trends in special education.
