JOB GOAL
To provide each student with the individually designed instruction he/or she requires to progress toward the educational and social-emotional goals established within each individual's education program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
I.Demonstrates a solid understanding of the curriculum. A.Demonstrates a working knowledge of the core curriculum for Special Education in alignment with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks B.Frames curriculum around key learning standards/concepts in the key content areas that provide opportunities for students with disabilities to demonstrate reasoning, logic, analysis and synthesis when planning units, lessons, and assessments. C.Keeps current in the various curricular and special education fields and applies that knowledge to the instructional program. D.Contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the curriculum. E.Ability to modify the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks to meet students' instructional levels II. Conducts effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction A. Effectively plans instruction and assessment for students with disabilities and monitors each student's understanding of the curriculum. Adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate. III.Manages the classroom environment and creates an atmosphere that is positive for student learning and involvement. IV. Delivers instruction effectively. A. The teacher makes learning goals of clear to students and uses appropriate instructional techniques. B. The teacher uses a variety of teaching strategies, including cooperative, peer and project-based learning; audio-visual presentations, lecture, discussions and inquiry, practice and application; and the teaching of others. C.The teacher uses questioning techniques appropriate to student's ability. D. The teacher evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn. V. Promotes and communicates high standards and expectations for student achievement. VI. Promotes equity and appreciation of diversity and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning. A.The teacher demonstrates an appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals. VII. Fulfills all professional responsibilities A. Cooperates in interactions with parents and receptive to their contributions. B. Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district. C.Exercises reflection on teaching and education and embraces the concept of continuous learning. VIII.Completes any other duty or assignments as directed by the Principal or Director of Special Education.
