Lead GSRP Teacher About us: Milwood Commons Learning Center serves the Kalamazoo, MI area and lovingly cares for children from infant to school age. Job Duties:

You will make a positive impact in the development of growing children as the GSRP Lead Teacher, directly reporting to the Executive Director. You will be the primary teacher for up to 18 PreK children. You will equip and supervise assistant teachers, directing them toward best practices. The ideal candidate for this position will be warm and nurturing with children, understanding their unique needs and abilities. Prior professional experience in team leading and childcare is a must, and experience with Creative Curriculum (or similar) is highly desired. Adherence to GSRP guidelines is a must. You will be asked to provide examples of organizational, communication, teamwork, and lesson planning skills. The Lead Teacher will interface with parents daily to keep them abreast of activities, progress, needs, and issues, so you will be expected to establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service. Understand that you will be a role model for caregiving staff and children, so the candidate needs to be positive, moral, and caring, maintaining professionalism while at work, and when speaking about Milwood Commons Learning Center. You will:
  • Appropriately supervise children, assisting them with the activities of daily life (e.g. diapering, feeding, dressing), while promoting independence.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, loving environment that meets the needs of your children and supports positive relationships with families.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the children in your care using developmentally appropriate, best practice methods in responding to social, emotional and physical needs.
  • Plan and facilitate daily activities that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Complete daily reporting for each student and record daily notes to be shared with parents, the center, and the state.
  • Understand your role in the lives of the students and within the center, and as such, possesses a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.
  • Attend staff meetings, complete trainings equal to 24 hours of professional development credits annually.
  • Complete 2 parent/teacher conferences each year
Qualifications:

A valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood-General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement, Early Childhood General and Special Education birth

  • kindergarten (ZN) or Lower Elementary Education PK (ZO) endorsement
  • or A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching. The transcript will document a major, rather than a minor, in child development or early childhood education ; or A bachelor's degree in elementary teaching with a valid Preschool CDA;
  • or•Willingness and ability to get it within 12 months of hire
Requirements:
  • Various background checks, including those completed through the Dept of Human Services and the Michigan State Police Department.
  • Be CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified or willing to obtain certification upon hire
