Job Description

As a Food Service Teacher (Chef), you'll prepare delicious, nutritious food that helps fuel children as they explore, play, and develop healthy eating habits and a lifelong love of learning. Prepare delicious, nutritious meals and snacks for young children. Encourage healthy eating habits through high-quality, child-friendly foods. Maintain a keen awareness of children who have food allergies and dietary restrictions. Provide appropriate substitute items for children with allergies or other food restrictions. Ensure the food service area and food are free of nuts, nut products, and food items processed in facilities that also process nut products, in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. Check food labels upon receipt to ensure compliance with allergy and food-safety requirements. Follow the daily menu prepared in collaboration with or by the Director. Follow established portion-control standards for meals and snacks. Adapt to and implement menu changes as directed. Ensure meals are prepared and ready to be served according to scheduled meal times. Assist with ordering food and accurately calculate quantities needed. Maintain an orderly, clean, and safe kitchen area at all times, including the proper maintenance of equipment. Attend required staff meetings, workshops, and/or school functions. Maintain a professional appearance consistent with workplace guidelines. Assist with other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director or designee. In order to inspire children to eat healthy, you need a workplace that inspires you. What You Bring Must meet applicable requirements established by local child care and food-service regulatory agencies. Ability to relate positively and appropriately to young children is essential. Previous experience in quantity food preparation is preferred. Strong attention to food safety, cleanliness, and dietary requirements. Ability to follow menus, recipes, portion standards, and food-safety procedures. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other team members. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds in connection with job duties, including handling materials and supporting child safety and emergency procedures. Pay:
$15.00 - $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
