Job Description

Category Schools - Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing specialized support as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. This contract role is situated just 20 minutes northeast of Columbia, SC, and focuses on delivering specialized instruction and advocacy for students with hearing differences within school settings.

Key Qualifications:

Current certification in teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing students. Strong knowledge of instructional techniques for DHH learners. Ability to collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers. Proficiency with assistive listening devices and adaptive technology. Effective communication skills, including ability to use sign language (preferred). Experience in IEP development and progress monitoring for DHH students.

Core Responsibilities:

Provide individualized and small group instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in various educational environments. Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement appropriate accommodations and modifications. Participate in IEP meetings, contributing expertise to support student success. Consult with families to encourage active involvement in their child's educational journey. Monitor, assess, and document student growth, adjusting strategies as needed. Promote self-advocacy and independence among students with hearing differences. Assist in training staff on best practices regarding Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
