Job Description

Description SUMMARY and PURPOSE Certified Tutors will provide academic support to students who are enrolled in JC courses and have applied for tutorial assistance. Certified tutors will staff drop-in hours/tutor by appointment at the CSS and/or tutor by appointment online. Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tutorial assistance to students. 2. Assist students with defining their academic success and monitor progress. 3. Be punctual for in person and online tutoring appointments. 4. Encourage student participation in tutoring through reminders of appointments, Socratic questioning, and other tutoring techniques. 5. Use the appropriate forms or software to maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions. 6. Refer students to other sources of support. 7. Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding students you work with. 8. Follow established policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Minimum Qualifications:
Tutors must be currently enrolled at JC at least half time level (6 credits). Tutors must have earned a 3.5 or better in the selected course or faculty referral. Tutors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Must be eligible for a Federal Work Study Award from Financial Aid Tutors must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Skills:
Tutors should have strong interpersonal communication skills. Supplemental Information Jackson College only accepts on-line applications though this system.
