Job Description
The Federal Work Study Student Worker position is for current Ocean County College students who are eligible for the Federal Work Study program. Students must have been approved by the Financial Aid office for FWS before starting their position. If you are not sure if you are eligible, please email financialaid@ocean.edu to initiate an eligibility check. A minimum of a 3.0 GPA is a prerequisite for these tutoring positions. The Fall 2026 rate for the FWS Student Worker position is $16.50/hr. The majority of positions listed are close to 20 hours per week, although some may be 10 or 15 hours per week depending on the position. 20hrs/wk is the maximum hours allowed for a position. Please read the job descriptions below, which will provide details about each position. Accounting or Precalculus (MATH191) Tutor; Peer Assisted Learning (2 available):
Requirement:
A minimum grade of B in the subject that the tutor will be specializing in Tutors in the Peer Assisted Learning program will provide tutorial assistance to students by attending most classes in the subject and providing in-class support as-needed. Tutors will be fully trained by members of the Tutoring Center and will receive day-to-day supervisory support.
Requirements:
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 with a minimum grade of B in the subject that the tutor will be specializing in. Peer Language Support Leader (3 available):
Requirement:
Speak fluently in English and 1 other language This position provides face-to-face and virtual academic support to students in a language other than English. The Peer Language Support leader will use a student's primary language to guide and support the student through the use of Tutoring Center and other Campus resources, technology, and appropriate study habits. Other duties include conducting workshops, maintaining session logs, and attending training sessions. Writing Peer Tutor (2 available): The Writing Peer Tutor will provide virtual and face-to-face tutorial assistance to students in specific English content course(s) or courses with a major Writing component, and/or study skills. Other duties include providing in class support, creating resources to upload to Writing Canvas course(s), maintaining and updating the tutoring session logs, and completing Conference Summaries as assigned. Tutors will be fully trained by members of the Tutoring Center and will receive day-to-day supervisory support.
Requirements:
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0. 1. Must be a current OCC student to be employed during the academic year 2. Must be approved by OCC's financial aid office for the Federal Work Study program.
