Love sports? Enjoy working with kids? Join the City of Norwalk Parks and Recreation team as a Youth Soccer Official ! The Norwalk Parks and Recreation Department is seeking enthusiastic individuals ages 14 and older to officiate youth soccer games during our 2026 Fall soccer season . This is a fun and rewarding opportunity to stay active, build leadership skills, and help create a positive experience for young athletes. Officials will referee games for students in 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, or 5th-7th grades , communicate game rules with coaches and players, and work alongside our on-site Facility Supervisors to ensure a safe, enjoyable environment for everyone. Previous officiating experience or experience working with children is preferred, but not required —we'll provide the rules and guidance you need to be successful. Position Details Seasonal, part-time position Weeknight games (Monday-Friday) at McAninch Sports Complex Hours generally between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. (varies by schedule) Fall season:
September-October Pay:
$15 per hour Requirements Must be at least 14 years of age Ability to communicate effectively with players, coaches, and staff Must provide your own stopwatch, whistle, and transportation to and from the sports complex Athletic attire is encouraged. Clothing displaying foul language, alcohol, or drug-related images or messages is not permitted, as McAninch Sports Complex is a family-oriented facility. Pre-Employment Requirements All offers of employment are contingent upon completing a background check and drug screening . Duties and Responsibilities The official will arrive fifteen (15) minutes prior to the scheduled game start. Must check in with the Facility Supervisor in the Equipment Room prior to heading to the field. Demonstrate the ability to officiate youth soccer games, while showing sufficient knowledge of rules and mechanics. Communicating with coaches and players while reviewing basic rules. Remaining unbiased while officiating games, avoiding verbal confrontations with spectators. The official will approach his/her position as a representative of Norwalk Parks and Recreation, displaying respect for the facility, participants, parents and co-workers. Keeping track of official game times. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities Ability to take the initiative to do the work that needs to be done. Ability to work independently. Self-motivator. Knowledge of soccer rules and regulations. Good decision making skills. Ability to deal with the public diplomatically. Able to run/job for periods of time during officiating. Work is performed outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions.
