Job Description

Provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. In general, this includes executing field investigations, performing engineering evaluations, and aiding in the preparation of geotechnical recommendations, performing field observation and geotechnical inspection including nuclear density testing, thorough documentation of field observations, aiding in preparing proposals and reports. Other job functions may include reviewing construction documents and work products prepared by others, fee estimates for geotechnical services, assisting project engineers with tracking and evaluate project progress, budgets, and change orders, performing onsite testing, perform literary reviews and site research to support project scoping efforts, site reconnaissance in support of geotechnical investigations, marking sites for public utility locate requests, reviewing and evaluating field and laboratory data, prepare field and digital exploration logs. Must demonstrate sound organizational skills and strong written and verbal communications skills in all project-related interactions with clients, staff, and peers. Must be willing to travel to support projects outside of the local Seattle area which may include central and eastern Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. Must be physically capable of lifting at least 50 pounds and transiting job site on foot for up to 12 hours. Must be capable of driving long distances (at least 8 hours). Passed Engineer-in-Training (EIT) / Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred 0-2 years work experience in civil engineering industry as geotechnical practitioner A valid driver's license with acceptable violation history Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate and aid in pre-task planning efforts. Report any safety issues or concerns to management Understand and practice project quality per Terracon's quality manual. Support consistent quality standards on all deliverables and written communications. Developing engineering professional; assignments are designed to develop knowledge and abilities. Assist in research, data collection, field observation, inspection, and field and laboratory testing. Prepare associated reports or sections of larger reports. Work closely with senior and project-level engineer to support any and all project needs. Evaluate laboratory and field data for inclusion in reports. Proactively initiate frequent check-ins with other technical staff and supervisors to assess work progress and deadlines. Possess a working knowledge of soil mechanics and ability to perform rudimentary geotechnical engineering analyses and more complex analyses with guidance from senior staff. Work with field crews in testing, observations, and data-gathering activities on project sites, and prepare field logs and daily reports documenting activities and findings. Ability to perform routine and rudimentary work independently. Ability to communicate field observations clearly and consistently to project engineers and other staff.
