Job description The Field Calibration Technician is responsible for the precision inspection, preventative maintenance, repair, and calibration of integrated, advanced optical metrology instruments to ensure micron measurement accuracy. Working closely with the EDMIS field service, applications, and engineering teams, you will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) providing premium support for our expanding customer base. This role requires a deep technical understanding of electro-optical systems, automated precision inspection equipment, and multi-axis spatial calibration. The ideal candidate will combine strong hardware troubleshooting skills with excellent communication to deliver a first-class support experience directly at customer sites. This position is based in Bartlett, IL.

Responsibilities:

Advanced Optical Calibration:

Perform precise in-field calibration, certification, and optical alignment of advanced CNC/robotic metrology systems, non-contact vision systems, and light/laser sensors.

Diagnostic & Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electro-optical, electronic, and mechanical component faults—both remotely and in person—in a timely and effective manner.

Preventative Maintenance:

Execute preventative maintenance programs to optimize optical path clarity, sensor drift, and machine performance while maintaining strict calibration records.

Customer Training & Support:

Provide technical training to customer personnel on advanced equipment set-up, precision adjustment, operation, and maintenance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Provide technical operational data, calibration reports, and system performance feedback to the EDMIS engineering team to assist in continuous product improvements.

Client Relations:

Promote exceptional customer relations by completing calibration jobs on schedule, addressing technical concerns, and maintaining a highly professional standard of service.

Technical Requirements:

Experience:

2+ years of relevant work experience in an equipment field service, metrology laboratory, or precision electro-optical technical support role.

Spatial & Geometric Awareness:

Strong understanding and demonstrated spatial awareness of multiple 3D coordinate systems, volumetric accuracy, and their relation to each other within a robotic or CNC workspace.

Instrumentation:

Demonstrated proficiency using diagnostic tools such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized optical alignment targets/artifacts.

Schematics & Drawings:

Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and highly dimensioned mechanical/optical drawings.

Electrical & Pneumatics:

Basic working knowledge of electrical systems (12VDC, 24VDC, 110VAC) and pneumatic system maintenance/troubleshooting (up to 150 psi).

IT Literacy:

Ability to efficiently navigate advanced settings, driver configurations, and communication ports within Windows 10 and 11.

Personal Requirements:

Autonomy:

Self-motivated, organized, and capable of executing and documenting complex technical applications with minimal supervision.

Communication:

Fluent in English (written and verbal) with excellent interpersonal and customer-facing communication skills.

Travel:

Ability to travel by air and ground within the United States to customer facilities. Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license.

Due to trade restrictions, employment is contingent upon successful verification of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status, alongside a background check and drug screen. EDMIS does not offer work visa sponsorship.
