Job Description
Fiber Splicer / Fiber Technician Level I (E-3 License Preferred) PRT Staffing is seeking a Fiber Splicer / Fiber Technician Level I to support the installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic and low-voltage communication systems. This position is ideal for technicians with fiber experience who are looking to grow their careers in telecommunications and infrastructure construction. Key Responsibilities Install, terminate, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cabling systems. Perform fusion splicing on both single-mode and multi-mode fiber. Conduct fiber testing using OTDRs, power meters, and fiber inspection scopes. Install structured cabling systems including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic infrastructure. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and project drawings. Install cable trays, pathways, racks, cabinets, and communication equipment. Complete documentation, quality control reports, and daily production records. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and industry standards. Maintain tools, equipment, and materials required for project completion. Travel to various job sites as needed and work occasional overtime or weekends. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum 2 years of fiber optic, telecommunications, or low-voltage experience preferred. Experience with fusion splicing and fiber testing equipment. Ability to read construction drawings and technical documents. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Strong troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills. Data center, outside plant, or structured cabling experience is a plus. Preferred Certifications New Mexico E-3 License BICSI Installer Certification (INST1, INSTC, or INSTF) CNet Certification Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certification Technical or Trade School Certification Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in various indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements throughout the workday.
