Brief Description of Duties:
SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Service and Repair Mechanic (Electronics) for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of campus electronic and low voltage systems. These systems include fire alarm systems, electronic access control systems, video surveillance systems, emergency communication systems, building automation systems, and related communication infrastructure. The position supports reliable operation of critical campus infrastructure and assists in maintaining compliance with applicable codes and safety standards. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to : Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic systems including fire alarm systems, electronic access control systems, video surveillance systems, emergency communication devices, and building automation systems. Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of electronic equipment to ensure reliable operation and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Diagnose equipment failures using appropriate testing instruments, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Repair or replace defective components, wiring, and system devices. Assist with installation and commissioning of new electronic and low voltage systems. Maintain records of inspections, repairs, and testing activities. Install and maintain low voltage wiring associated with building systems including controls, generators, and communication equipment. Coordinate with contractors and vendors during system installation and repair activities. Operate campus vehicles and transport tools and equipment to job locations. Follow applicable safety procedures and electrical safety standards.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of full-time experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.
Substitution:
An associate's degree in electronic technology, or successful completion of a two-year technical professional certification program in the electronics field may be substituted for two years of the required experience;
  • OR•Graduation from a high school technical electronics education program recognized by the New York State Education Department as meeting the standards for technical education may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Examples of qualifying experience include work involving: Fire alarm systems Security or access control systems Video surveillance systems Communication systems Building automation or control systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with fire alarm systems Experience working with electronic access control systems Experience working with video surveillance systems Experience working with building automation systems Experience installing and troubleshooting low voltage wiring Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals Experience working in institutional or campus environments Familiarity with
